Anyone ever sampled a DVD directly with the MR8?

I want a spoken part on a break down of a song, and wasn't sure if the signals would be 'compatible', if the levels would be audible without running through some sort of amp, etc...

Anyone?

Thanx.

i think the legalities are more of an issue than the compatability. just run the audio out on the dvd player to the inputs of the MR8. i would think it's as simple as that?

samples

i did the same thing with a vcr it wilol work , and the legalities come to a 10% rule, lok up copy right san dyou will fine out what you can and cant use, just remember, you dont want anyone stealing your music, repect others rights.......

I assumed it would be as simple as that, but wasn't sure, and didn't know if anyone had tried this and run into any difficluties.

Yea, I agree with the theft issue. I thought that there was a time limit as to what could be sampled from movies? Also, if there is no money made from the production...

Dunno... Anybody know the legality aspects better than I?

Where would one look to find out?

I believe music (movies too?) can be freely used if its writer/producer is dead more than 75 years (maybe 70). You can use the music, not a performance of the music (e.g. you can play beethoven's 5th, but you can't sample someone else playing it without getting permission)

This means there are tons of classic melodies out there you can use to enhance your own tracks!

Movies indeed may be different than music. I've used soundtrack music in commercials that went to air, but the stations involved all paid licensing fees to ASCAP/BMI...

Now, if no money is made, and proper credit is given, that may change things a bit. Future Music magazine put out a REDBOOK attachment that has a section on copyrights. I suspect an internet search will turn up a wealth of material.
