sampletank 2 softsynth??

anyone us sampletank 2? if so what are your opinions??
any other recommendations??
I currently use tts-1 (came with sonar 4) and would like some higher quality sounds for my midi tracks.

I've played around with Sampletank some. The Steinway and Wurlitzor sounds from their piano/key pack is pretty good. Organ sounds are not on par with Native Instruments b3/b4 though.

I think most of the samplers out there now are pretty good,it's the sound library that sets them apart.The sampler can only sound as good as the samples.

If a sampler is halfway decent,it should import all the major sample types and also be able to read direct from the hard drive.
Remember whatever you choose,it's going to take more CPU and RAM than the TTS-1.



I'm a Sonar 3 user and I use Kompakt for a sampler and have been very happy with it.
 
ST2 is decent enough. It has some pretty good sounds overall. But it is limted. You can import your own samples, but it is a painfull process to say the least. If you are looking for a well rounded sampler, look no further than Kontakt :)
If you are just looking for something that has a ton of good usable presets, than sure ST2 will do you fine (It is worlds better than the TTS-1).
 
I had no problems with importing my own samples into ST2, and I also love it :)

Sampletank 2XL here. Like it and use it a lot.

But didn't have quite everything I needed. Also own Kompakt (really great for running Gigastudio and EXS instruments) and just got Garritan Jazz & Big Band.
 
For good orchestral sounds, check out Edirol Orchestral (Discontinued, but still available through some dealers such as Sweetwater http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/HQOR/ (Audio demos available there)). I hear the new IK Multimedia Miroslav Philharmonik http://www.philharmonik.com/Main.html?prod_MP is supposed to be really good. I've heard the demo songs and they are definitely good. But if you want to give ST2 a go, then go to the downloads section of http://www.sampletank.com/ and download ST2 FREE, and all the free instruments. It is import and save disabled, but otherwise unrestricted time-wise.
 
problem with ringing on.

i have sampletank 2xl and i have a question about it if anyone would be so kind as to answer. i am running it through sonar producer ed. 4 and whenever i play a midi file using it, the sampled sound rings on and on. i cant figure out why it's doing that and i was wondering if any of you have faced that problem and know of the remedy...

It sounds to me like you're either not getting a note off message or the sustain controller is engaged.

I would look in the pian roll view and see if you can find the culprit there.
 
My nephew had similar problems with Sonar 3 and both Sampltank 1XL and Edirol Super Quartet. He never figured it out, but instead used the included VSC instrument to work out the MIDI tracks and then exported those MIDI tracks to another program (Muzys I think...), rendered the the files with Sampletank and SQ there, and then imported the Audio files back into Sonar for mixing.

i appreciate the input... another problem in conjuction with the continuing sound after the midi note has ended is that it only can play one note at a time. i turned the polyphony all the way up in sampletank but it still only plays one of the notes.

Is that on all instruments or only certain ones?

Does your controller have a "solo" button turned on?
 
its on any instument that can ring on. obviously on somthing like the drums where it dies out, it doesnt ring on. but on any piano, synth string, guitar, etc. it rings like mad. and if a chord is being played in the piano, only one of these notes in the chord can be heard. as if i was using one finger instead of three or four. nothing is soloed. other DXi's work great. it's only with sampletank that i have this problem.

Sounds like the problem lies in Sampletank.

Have you tried using it as a VSTI?

Have you installed the latest updates?
 
i'm not sure i know how to use it as a vsti and i could not find any updates except practically buying the more recent software... which costs like 250 bucks
 
The updates would be at the company's support page and the instructions to install as a vsti should be either in the manual,help file or at the support site.

quick update...
I went to the local g/c to buy sampletank and they were out of stock, but they had a copy of motu machfive on sale for $49.00. I couldn't resist for that price, so I bought it.
It has some very good samples, but doesn't have everything I need, so I will still probably need something else (most likely sampletank) to complement it.
As someone else mentioned, these things are cpu hogs--really slows down my computer--I may need to consider a computer upgrade.

LOT'S of RAM is a must. Not sure how Machfive is, but check to be sure that Hard Drive-Streaming (or whatever MOTU may call it) is turned on if it is optional (Most likely it is on by default though).
