sample rates

I think what I got out of all those responces is that you should record at 96k so you get the most sound in the recording. The same way it's better to EQ a sound live rather than doing it after it's already been recorded. You're EQing the source live... that's my analogy for it I guess :)
Anyone know if you can upgrade just the sound card for the Layla?
 
I remeber back in 1982 when we first came across digital we put and album of Dire Straits and the same CD on together in a top studio in Melbourne. What was missing was air - the tail of the snare - the last few delays on the perc etc. If you go to minidisc you loose more air etc. I would like digital to have the same air as analogue. As my friend Donny who fixed all my analogue gear said - " tape samples at 150KHz - it's bias frequency!"
