sample rate

hey guys

ok, if i record and mix everything at 24/48 in protools and then bounce to disk at 16/44.1 as a stereo wave(so i can put it on cd) why do i hear a very slooooooooooooooowww song?
i added the dither plug to my masterfader but still slow music.....

You're either dithering down to 16/48 or burning the disk wrong either way you are doing something wrong. Make sure the dither is at 16/44
 
Maybe its the dither plug im using but i only see the option for changing the bit resolution which i have set at 16
 
you misunderstood what I was talking about on your other post. Dithering isn't going to do anything for your sample rate conversion...it's for your bit depth conversion
The reason it's playing back slow is because you have something up with your sample rate. Like I suggested in the other post, it's more than likely one of your clocks are wrong. When you're going through several peices of digital gear before you get to Pro Tools stuff needs to be set correctly. Make sure Pro Tools, the Rosetta 800 and the Focusrite are all set to the same sample rate....and make sure Pro Tools is receiving clocking information from the external device (Rosetta) via SPDIF or ADAT
 
You are bouncing (mixing) it down to a 48k file. The CD is playing it back at 44.1, that's why it's slow.

If you have the option, just record at 44.1k. 48k doesn't help anything that the sample rate conversion doesn't take away.
 
your right but how can i get the sessions that i already have recorded at 48 to not sound slow on cd..
 
You are still bouncing them down as 48k files. I don't use protools so I can't tell you why, but that is what is happening. Do you have wavelab or soundforge? If you bounced it down to 48/24 and did the sample rate conversion and dithering in a different program, it might be less confusing.
 
I think he's saying he is bouncing to a 44.1 file. That's why I think it was a clocking issue prior to recording/mixing.
Provided you have "convert after bounce" selected...what's supposed to be happening is Pro Tools will play the file at 48kHz during bounce down rendering all the effects to it...then after it's done it will convert it to the proper sample rate.

I record at 48/24 all the time and the only time I've ever run into issues after bouncing is because my clock was set wrong.
 
royalb, check to make sure one second in Pro Tools actually plays back in one seconds time. Select a few seconds in Pro Tools, play it back and count along with it...you may find that that Pro Tools is counting at a different pace.
I've run into this issue before too.
 
But he says it is still slow in the car. Protools couldn't be screwing up the sample rate conversion because of the clock issue. Anyway, if he was playing a 44.1k file and the clock was set to 48k, it would be playing faster.

well, what I'm suggesting is the clock rate was screwed up when he was recording
 
ill just play around with it and let yall know what i come up with

mabye i can just rty it using pt internal and cutting out the rosetta

Musicians take a lot of smoke breaks, that gives me time to do this.
 
Try looking at your duplicate post. I think I answered your problem there.
