Hi. i have not been using my recording stuff for a while and cant remember which sample rate I used to use. I thought it was set on 96 but now whenever I change the Asio device from the Internal sound card to the Edirol, It automatically changes the sample rate to 44.1. Can I record on this or should it be on 96? I am pretty sure I had it on 96 before. What is the normal sample rate to use with this kind of set up?
:o

Macbook pro, cubase studio 5, Edirol UA25

it's an open debate i guess, but the general ruling is that most people don't mix in 44.1 or 96.

seems like the drawbacks of mixing in 96 (hard drive space and cpu consumption) outweigh any benefits, in most people opinions.

do you have an option for 48k?

if your asio settings are auto defaulting, maybe there is an application that's using audio at that sample rate?

quit all programs, (itunes/media players/browsers/messengers etc) then try to change it.

I've not known that to be a 'general rule'.

I wouldn't worry about 96, and you will do just fine (as thousands of others do) with 44.1.
