Would anyone like to clue me in a bit about sample CDs?

I'm speaking particularly of drum loops.

I have so much trouble getting drum and percussion tracks to sound the way I want them to, using soundfonts. So I thought I'd look for loops on the Internet, but there are so many problems with that. Much of what I've found has one of these issues:

Poor sound quality.

Loops organized by nothing more than strings of letters and numbers. Like I'm going to download 500 .wav files to pick the one I want.

Not timed to loop properly.

Mainly hard techno and industrial.

So I've been thinking about possibly getting a sample CD to play with, but they're all so expensive. How am I supposed to know what to get? I'm also not really into making hard techno music, and I'm not a "DJ" who "spins". I just make electronic pop music. I'd like something that's versatile and easy to use.

Words of wisdom are needed, please. :D

buy rad or drum tools by acid.. 44 bucks each.. tons of loops and all of good sound quality.

Hey, good call. I liked a lot of what I heard at the Sonic Foundry website. Of course, I'll have to buy ACID too, but that wouldn't be such a terrible thing.

Any other suggestions?

if you already have a way to use loops and such you dont "need" acid. but it is handy to have, but i can use acid loops in logic all day..

you can listen to the sounds and samples in a cd before you buy them on the internet. Soundscan and others give previews of their cd's on their websites, of course the quality is awful and the inserted a buzz on every file so you won't use them, but you can go online and preview what you get on the cd.

reality is that most of the loops you fid on the internet for free, will not be anything you could use in a professional level. Most of is is no well done, or it has a bad quality.

Cd's are expensive, but if you know what to choose, it's worth it.
