Ive been looking for a jazz guitar for months and I finally stole this flawless ax for only 150.00.

Im in the prossess of putting in a set of gibson les paul pickups. Ive looked on the web and saw it priced at 899.00us and at harmony central owners rated it at 9-10 in every catagory.

Jazz players did I get a good deal here? the neck is perfect as is everything else.

I have the HJ 650. It is indeed a nice axe.

I would suggest you try flatwounds if your after a jazz sound. I'm using D'Addario Chromes 12's strung fairly high. Love the sound but it took me a month to beef up my hand strength and fingertips to the point that I could play for more than 30 mins without being in pain. I had gone from a 335 copy that was a breeze to play but really wanted a certain sound for recording.

I also just re-tubed my Trace Eliott Velocette for use with this guitar. I put in a Telefunkin 12AT7 and a Mullard 12AU7 in the preamp and got a RCA Blackplate 6L6GC. Man, what a difference.

I would also suggest going with the Gibson Classic 57 pickups. That is what is standard on the Gibson L5. I liked the pickups in it just fine except the bridge pickup had a bit of a bite to it. The Classic 57's took care of that.

The neck has a great feel and being a big guy I like having a guitar with some size to it.

Good luck with the new axe.
