Hi all,
I am trying to set-up a small home recording "studio" and settled on the Saffire Pro 10 because it is supposed to be simple, reliable and compatible with my XP machine...ok - so much for the theory.
1) I used to have a Creative labs sound-card and it proceeded to uninstall the 61883 Device Class drivers
(They seem to be somewhat necessary) and the saffire doesn't carry those.
2) Then I found out that my Firewire card is too unstable for the recording industry and that one MUST settle only for a Firewirecard with a Texas instrument Chip set (according to Andertons in the UK)
3) After re-installing windows xp my computer device manager finally has the Saffire Pro 10 in the Device Manager under the 61883 Device Class section.
BUT... Windows doesn't think there is a sound card anywhere. I open Sounds and Audio Device Properties and it proudly proclaims that there is no Playback Devices found.
I am running windows XP home edition SP2, I installed the latest drivers from Focusrite (focusrite.com/support/software/saffire_pro_10_io) and when I launch the SaffireControl Pro It identifies the Saffire just fine (no connection issues)
Any suggestions on what I am missing? This is clearly a stupid end-user issue (ie my fault) but I thought drivers tell windows it has a sound-card...maybe something did go wrong during the install? Should I only have in the device manager the one entry (61883 Device Class -> Saffire Pro?
Help please -> anyone with a Saffire Pro card should be able to spot what is missing by simply opening the device Manager on XP.
Thanks in advance.
