yes
ive been trying to write a sad/serious song for some time now. I just cant get the feel of a good sad chord progression. anybody got any theyd like to share>?

But first tune all your strings flat and also use drop D tuning. Damn, now that's gotta be sad.

The Moonlight Sonata is in C#minor (see Db minor above)

It is crushing in it's sadness.

that's not sad, it's called NU-metal.

Yeah, just throw a minor chord into any chord progression. The melody will have a lot to do with the overall tone of any piece.

Am G F has been used in many rock songs (Stairway to Heaven).

Also, Am D C (If Tomorrow Never Comes).

I would just study some sad songs you like and see what the writers did.

I like to write songs using a major I IV V progression, and then just when everybody gets nice and happy, I stab myself in the face with a machete. It's not really sad, but it makes for a cool reaction.

How many times have you pulled that off successfully?

Just twice. Once I accidentally chopped my whole head off, and I was like "fuck...that didn't work."

You should have picked it up and tossed it into the crowd, maybe started biting people and stuff. That would have been sweet.

That one's lovely. What do you call it?

</spinal tap reference>

I usually like to write sad songs with Am Em C and G

yea pretty much anything major is related to happy, bright times
and anything minor is sad, depressed, or horror
stuff with like sharps or flats with "7" are usually like gospel
