I have this S video out on my laptop (IBM T22) and I copped a S-Video to RCA adapter from a friend. I plugged it up thinikng it would just up and work... I attached the adater and a video cable going to the RCA video in on the tube... It didn't work. Anybody know how I can set this up?

I've actully been been trying to figure this for close to a year now. The whole time I've had the laptop... Now that I'm really (not really) trying to tie my laptop into my setup i really want it to work with a external extra monitor and a regular TV screen.

What's the deal with it? Preciate ya...

I think the S-Video works more like an audio port. You have to send something through it via a program. I don't think the S-video works like a dual head video card does. Then again, maybe there is an App. you have to run or a setting somewhere to specify usage of that port as another "monitor" out. Either way, that's still pretty cool.

I have a video card with a an S-video port as well and it came with an rca adapter...but the thing is the S-video doesn't recieve a signal coming from the tv letting it know it is hooked up....for the longest time I thought it was broke......then on a whim I tried my wifes video to RF box we picked up at radioshack to connect our dvd player to the old tv in our bedroom......long story short....it worked.....appearently there was enough juice in the rf-adapter box to trip the circuitry that let the card know it was hooked up to video device.

Food for thought

I don't know for sure but I don't think an s-video to rca adapter makes sense. One is a 9 pin the other is a two conductor. If an RCA would work why wouldn't they just put the simpler RCA out on the laptop card?

Anyway the trick I used to get my s-video to work was to disconnect my main monitor and start the computer with only the s-video connected...worked like a charm for my video card.

Good luck.

Oh wait that doesn't make any sense...you can't disconnect the monitor on a laptop.

Try emailing the manufacturer for the details of the laptop s-video output.

Yes they do, You can order them from radio shack, You may have to configure your video card, It will work on input ch, or it does in my case with both my raedon and nvidia. check here or smart home has great stuff, just pricey.

Good luck

An S-Video connector carries no audio. It just simply seperates the Chroma & Lumma and carries them on seperate wires, which usually means a sharper picture. Dell laptops include a S-Video to RCA adaptor. I would think that something you would buy at Radio Shack would work.

Also, most TVs can only digest up to 800x600, so don't bother setting anything higher.

I keep a PC in my living room hooked up to my TV. I have used ATI Rage, Voodo III, and now ATI Radeon cards with it. In each case the TV out is only enabled if the card is plugged into the TV when you power up. I don't know about your laptop, but you might just try re-booting the laptop after hooking it up to the TV.
