I'm planning to get a soundcraft Folio mixer yet the line ins are Rca instead of 1/4 in. Is this gonna be a loss in signal??( I heard Rca is -10 decibels vs. 1/4 in. +4 decibels, not sure though)
Could I just run 1/4 inch cords into adapters that would convert the Folio's RCA ins to 1/4 ins??
I search for this stuff like crazy and get all this varying and contradicting info.

The connector doesn't determine the operating level of the unit. Don't confuse the connector with the signal it carries. You will have to look up what operating level the unit works at.

if the 1/4 inch plug has 2 rings, (trs, balanced, etc) it is +4, but if it only has one ring, like a guitar cable, it is likey carrying a -10 signal.

He was asking about RCA.

There are plenty of unbalanced +4 units. The connector is not an indication of the signal it is carrying EVER

It's just 2 wires going into a metal shell. Nothing more.

The shape of the shell (RCA or 1/4"plug or 1/8"plug) is irrelevant.

Well its because I'll be running external preamps into the line ins of this little Folio mixer. I just want to know that I'm NOT getting less decibels to the line in RCA's as I would if it were just normally 1/4 inch.
Its seems like a great little mixer but I hear that 1/4 inch balanced cords carry more signal than RCA cords, even the high quality ones. This could be false info. So I was attempting to conteract this claim by running balanced 1/4 inch. cords into the RCA jacks by using RCA to 1/4 inch. adapters, but I don't know if that can be properly done.
I just don't want my external pres signals to be compromised in any way, yet its nice to run them into a mixer and have the a big submix going into the recorder.

"Decibels" are not running in the wires; Volts go through wires.

Again, it's just 2 wires running into a metal shell and does not matter what shape the shell is.
