Not a bad job at all man. Where did you record this? Vocals have some interesting acoustics. A small room? Personally, I think you did a good job on the vox. Good dynamics to them. Drop the volume of the vox/bring up the guitar a bit to even the 2 sounds out a little.

Cool tune man...

dude that thing was a mother to sing!!

let me tell you..

anway i had to record the guitar while i was recording the vocals cause of the pause in between verses when he is sing roooooooooxaaanne i just couldnt get the timing right...

but thanks for the comment on the vox... i was super worried about them...(for obvious reasons)

it was recorded in a little 20x8 foot room with an sm57/tascam 122 but drenched in reverb...

Tone the verb down a bit, and see how it sounds. I think a slightly dry version of this might sound cool....

good call but the reverb brings out the percussion of the hand slap on the strings...
(and covers up missed not quite on notes!lol)

seriously though i might if i ever intend to do anything with this...

ill try it and see...

i still got the song file i think...

what do you think of the overall production quality cause i used 2 compressions on it and was afraid that it might be a little too much compression... steal from the dynamics of the over all song... im still kinda getting comfortable with my recording gear ....

wow,..i f$%@#in' hate this song. I really like the way you did it though. If i would've heard your version before the other one,..who knows,..this might be in my cd player!

Great job. I think your voice is killer man. Keep workin' on it.

take 'er easy,...

wow when i first read your post my heart skipped a beat ... i though that you were about to severly slaughter me! lol....

whew...

thanks bro...

the recording that gave me the idea and i am much more familiar with than the original(i only heard the original on the radio) is a recording of sting in an interview with an acoustic guitar...

for vh1 storytellers i think.. anyway my buddy buys music dvds and auxs out the music to his computer and records it... but im sure you can find it on a cd somewhere its only like 1:45 long and sting sounds like hes been up on coke for about 10 years...lol...

i think i still have pink floyd the wall movie's audio cd somewhere... hmmm...

I saw Sting do Roxanne acoustically during the "Dream of the Blue Turtles" tour... it was awesome.

I have to say that I do indeed like the expression and such on the vocals and you certainly nailed Sting's vocal qualities ... but the pitch of the vocals is something that made it hard for me to listen to at times.

It seems to be very inconsistent with the pitch of the guitar (like whole steps on or off at particular parts).

That's my only real complaint... I like the sound of things (vocal recorded quality is nice).

Keep it up!

I also really hate this song, but I liked the way you did it better.

I agree very much with Elvis's comments. You have a great style and tone to your voice, but the pitch was a bit questionable in this piece.

The good news is that you have the style thing licked, which a lot of other people struggle with. All you need to do is concentrate on pitch. And I know that you have the ear to do it; it just needs to be trained a bit more.

I would suggest playing the melody of a song on an instrument (guitar or piano), singing along with it, and record that. If you're not sure of the melody exactly, try to locate the sheet music. Listen very closely to the recording of you and the melody together and make sure that you're getting every pitch.

My ear was horrible when I started playing guitar 18 years ago. I had this really funny video of my friend and I playing "Every Rose has its Thorn" (it was late eighties ok?) that's just god awful. Neither of our guitars are very close to being in tune by themselves, and they're also probably about a quarter-step away from each other. And then I'm "singing" in pretty much a different key altogether most of the time. It was terrible.

But, my point is that with lots of work I've developed a pretty decent ear and singing voice as well.

You're on your way to becoming a good singer; you just need to develop your ear a bit more. I'd suggest maybe doing a search on some ear-training programs. I'm sure there are plenty of good ones. Or you might see if there's a community college in your area that has an ear-training class.

Trust me. I'm speaking from experience. Ear training will help out tremendously. You've got the style and tone thing licked; now you've just got to get your pitch under control and you'll be a really great singer.

I don't mean to be discouraging, and I hope I'm not having that affect. But I don't want to blow smoke either. I'm being perfectly honest when I say that I think you could be a great singer in just two or three years if you just work on training your ear. Record yourself singing scales and intrevals as you play them --- things like that. It will help so much.

Keep at it, this is a tough vocal to deliver. I agree with DM about backing off the reverb a bit.

Hey man...good job on this...I always liked the acoustic version that Sting would play of this tune, and I think you get pretty close, especially trying to duplicate such a unique and recognizable vocalist. You may not get as high vocally as Sting, but it fits your version very well.I also enjoyed your guitar playing on this...nice job!

thanks guys... and dont worry beagle this is one of those things where i need honest feedback... and i hear the problems with the pitch too (not as well as you guys probably)

but its just so hard for me to judge what i a doing while i m doing it... its almost always a record/listen/record/listen process and this time i just got fed up and posted.... lol

im doing some college soon so yeah the eartraining will be at the top of the list...
