ok, recorded a punkband today,
was fun, the weather outside was nice and warm,
inside the room it was HOT and smelly after a while of course,
but in the end i'd rather discribe the smell as a STENCH

after every take we opened the windows and let the fan blow real hard,
thats not what i wanna do every time i record a band,

i don't like blowing fans, mine is pretty silent, but i don't like wind in my overhead mics and stuff,

so what kind of things do you guys do to "refresh" the room while the musicians are in there?
and i don't have money for a real decent airconditioning,
even if i had the money it wouldn't be interesting since i'm leaving this building within a year or so...
want something small, mobile...not too noizy...

i don't like perfume, what about febreze? hehe,

you guys know small, powerful and real silent "portable' fans?
or aircleaners?

i don't know anything about it, but this summer i'll REALLY need it !!

thanks in advance

Aren't portable AC units popular in Europe? They are expensive and hard to find here, so most people use window AC units. Either way, just switch it on during breaks, and when you move, take it with you. A window AC unit will cool a LOT faster than a fan in an open window.

The problem with any other solution, like a fan or air freshener, is that those don't remove humidity from the air, which is what is making everybody hot, sweaty, and smelly in the first place. AC units dehumidify.

good suggestion,
indeed, the 'wet' smell of sweat is still all around in my room,
didn't sleep well tonight...

what does AC stand for? air cleaner?

i'm definately gonna start looking around for it,

my fan is blowing now....now i got a lowfrequency background rumble going on and actually it just moves the stench around instead of getting rid of it

next weekend i'll go to the city and look for some electronic stores,
or anything where they might sell these things,

or anyone got suggestions for online stores?
220V or 110V equipment, doesn't matter

You need an "ionic breeze".

It's a 3'foot tall cylinder with air vents front and back - and without a fan, it circulates the air through it, using high voltage electricity to remove pollutants of any kind.

I have two in my studio, but generally only have one on at any time.

These things are so good, you can light a cigar, and blow the thick cigar smoke at the side that takes in the air, and that is the last you'll see of the smoke. I kid you not.

It removes pollen, dust, dirt, mold, everything.

And cleaning the unit is easy... you turn it off, rotate a large black knob on top 1/4 turn, then pull up and attached to that knob is four 30" long metal plates. You wipe then with a wet paper towel, then dry, then stick back into the machine. Takes a whopping 5 minutes. No filters, no collection bags, nothing. Four paper towels and you're done.

The two units I have are from different makers, the one I use all the time is from "Sharper Image", and was a little more money than the "knock off" I have at the back of the studio. The Sharper Image unit works faster, and is more effective, than the knock-off unit, even though they work the same way, clean up the same way, etc. The knock off unit also is a little fiddly when removing and reinserting the metal plates.

I highly recommend these units. No fan, no noise, no nothing.

i am a large fan of febreeze! it takes away anything!! i know someone that smokes cannabis in their room of their parents house at night, febreezes it up, and the smell is gone! i also have a dehumidifier in my studio. its good for your gear not to have all the moisture in the air..incense probably arent the best things for your gear...

Worm,

You have a real problem then - because it isn't just conditioning the air - you need fresh air - and without something real and decent - you will have to live with what you have.

A portable AC unit can help you - but they are not exactly cheap if you are going to have something quiet enough to leave on when you record - but the room will still get funky without fresh air.

Good luck,

Rod

Air conditioner. Cools air by removing heat from the room and exporting it to the outdoors!

Don't worry, a few more of those global warming summers and everybody in Europe will have them!

the one I use all the time is from "Sharper Image",

this sounds real interesting,

suggestions for online stores that sell it? i'm gonna google my ass off,

next saterday another punk band is coming over, sunday i'm doing the backing vocals for thepunkband i just did, the week after that i'm doing a death metal band
in the mean time there's also a hiphop project running,

and the weather is getting hotter and hotter,

i had my fan blowing all day long, doesn't refresh my room,
now i got this simple 'air cleaner', but its old, and doesn't do much...

i'd love to get me that mysterious "sharper image" thing,
maybe i can ask my parents to financially support me for a portable airconditioner... i can tell them:
mom, dad, i can't study in a hot room....
should have said that four years ago already...

yes , i still study

um. i dont suppose you suffer from real bad flatulence do you??

if so you could cut down on the beans intake ;)

if you dont try here and have a fart or two to blame it on ;)
http://www.farts.com/ :) :) :) :) :)

sorry, no coffee yet so im kinda nuts!

Your band/musicians must shower and wear fresh clothes for a session!

...................

hehe,
yeah its funny,
the smell is better now !
i checked some stores for airco's,
didn't see any below €500

saw some "dehumidifiers", things that take humidity out of the air,
all around €200 , but i'm not sure thats exactly what i need

i shower often, i'm clean, very clean, didn't take drugs for over a week,
can't be cleaner than me :p

Ouch! You can get 'em for less than $200 here. I have an old window unit I'd give you, but the shipping would kill you :(

very friendly, but i don't wanna build it in my window here,
don't live in my own house yet,
i've just entered a new "area",,,,,COOLING SYSTEMS instead of recording,
i find it funny

but like i said, i don't know anything about it, and am even thinking about looking up forums specially about airco and stuff to find info on what exactly i'd need and what the brands and types are i'd need...and where i can get them, most people here are more into compressors i know ;)

right now its raining and the sun is shining, thats EXACTLY how i like it

isn't an obituary something written in the newspaper? does your recording space smell like a newspaper?

or did you really mean an obutuary? is that pronounced o butt uary? oh, i get it, the room smells like ass...

thanks for the link,

ps, i mean an obUtuary,
a place where they slaugher animals and stuff :D

its also a very famous belgian hardcore band from brussels :)

frederik, i'm gonna rely on you,
i hope this is what i need,
i'm buying it this week,
drowning in work, don't have time to read more info on it,
and honestly really need this kinda thing

ehm, you might have said it already,
but does it take humidity out of the air too?
(gonna see if they ship to europe, or if there's a EU company,
otherwise i'll have to ship it over to a US friend so he can ship it over to me,
god,,,,,)

personally i think its down to multiple farts.. i think you have a methane problem and you are in denial.. you really need to get it looked at young man... pppaarrrrpp!!!

I guess you missed this bit of news all over the media last month...

http://www.komo1000news.com/consumertip/story.asp?ID=36170

"Air Ionizers Might Do More Harm Than Good"

The magazine’s tests also found that ionizners can create "significant levels of ozone" pollution. "And ozone has no positive effects on air cleaning,” says the magazine’s Celia Kuperszmid-Lehrman. “People with asthma and respiratory allergies are especially sensitive to ozone,” she points out.

"Smells Like Teen Ass",...

sounds like a song!!
