Roland VS1824 question

Hey quick question. I'm recording/mixing on a Roland VS1824. The left side of the level meter display shows dBs as:

0

4

[12]

-

48

What's the box around the 12 mean? I don't see it mentioned in the manual.
 
cool.. thats right about where my signal is. There or slightly above.
 
Yo Sho:

You will find that some patches, like flute, or bass or whatever, can be boosted a bit above the norm setting line.

But, this depends on what it is you're after. Like the major sounds going where and how much.

All of this is part of the mixing duty and experiment is often the brother of success. Like, vulcanizing rubber was an accident that gave us nice tires.

So, twiddle and diddle and you will be amazed at the results.

I use the 2816 and it is an SIAB similar to your gear.
