Now that's the biggest can of worms I've seen in a long time
Both will work, both will do an excellent job. There are a zillion factors that come into play, and a zillion pros and cons for each.
Try doing a couple of searches in this site and you'll get a better idea of the specifics you're looking for. Here are a couple of very basic pros for each:
VS2480
- Self-contained studio is more flexible for recording remote sessions
- Very good built-in effects
- Generally simpler to operate
Digi001
- More flexibility in editing/mixing/mastering
- Easier to get music onto CD's and on the internet
- Digidesign is a standard in "real" studios - easier to migrate a project to another studio.
