Soundcard Junkie
Anyone else have any problems with the MMP2 spdif output with certain devices?

Trying it out with my Audiophile yields nothing, even though the audiophile says valid signal detected and it locks to it just fine.

The exact same thing happens with my friend's mbox.

And it's happened with two MMP2 units now, both fresh out of the box.

I tried plugging the thing into some digital mixers and speakers at the store I bought it from, just so I'm sure that the unit itself works...boom, I got sound! but not on my audiophile...

The surprisingly helpful M-audio folk and the surprisingly alive Roland folk don't see where the problem is...

Anyone else using an MMP2? If you're using the digital out, what soundcard are you using it into? I'm certainly in the market for a new soundcard these days...perhaps graduating to an Aardvark, or maybe even RME if the money works out...

You may be seeing a difference in the frequency of the MMP-2 and the soundcard's default frequency setting.

If the Roland is delivering 96 kHz / 24 bit then you'd need to have a card with the SP/DIF set to the same settings. You might try adjusting the Roland's output settings (if possible) or your card's input settings.

Some devices have switches to adjust their SP/DIF settings (Lexicon MPX-550 reverb has an internal firmware configuration (44/48 kHz), as does the Focusrite Trakmaster with the ADC card - 2 switches (44/48/88/96 kHz)).

Check your documentation around the frequencies of your sound card SP/DIF input.

Some afterthoughts - a Roland M-1000 mixer will automatically lock to each input device's SP/DIF frequency. USB often will only carry 44 kHz / 16 bit.
