Roland drum set and Sibelius...

So I'm using a cheap Roland electric kit and am trying to sequence some drum tracks by playing them in through Sibelius 3. Using a Yamaha UX16 USB MIDI interface. Works without a hitch when using a regular MIDI keyboard, but having a couple of problems with the drum.

First, drum notes are sounding (through my stock soundcard) about half a second behind the trigger. I don't know how to get into my latency settings to fix this, as the latency settings in Sib don't seem to affect anything.

Secondly, only a fraction of my played notes are being recorded by the program. Is there a sensitivity setting that I can turn down?

FWIW, I play these tracks back through a Yamaha keyboard for performance, and they sound good enough for my taste. I just want to be able to play drum parts in rather than try to do it through a keyboard. Thanks in advance!

If the delay is on your soundcard, perhaps it's a combination of the USB MIDI interface and the softsynth latencies. I've had problems with Sibelius and softsynths. The audio engine is more controllable on Sib 5, and I can't remember what options you have on 3. I do remember never solving the problem, unfortunately.

Have you tried disabling the soundcard's softsynth in Sibelius and forcing it to use the keyboard for MIDI out? Play -> Playback Devices (or something similar). So for drum input you'd have: the MIDI in connected to your drums and the out to your keyboard. You can specify MIDI thru so you hear things instantly even if Sibelius has a delay in processing.

I was able to correct some of the problem by using the same input device for playback. Since I couldn't expect the drumset to playback the rest of the MIDI composition, I ran the output from the computer into a keyboard.

It worked well, but then all of a sudden the notes quit registering. After doing a bit more research, I suspect that my Yamaha MIDI-USB cord is to blame.
