Roland D-70 Question

I don't have a D-70 manual. Was lost by previous owner.

Does anyone know how to save a Patch on D-70 ?
The synth has 5 parts plus rhythm
I want to edit the patched with instruments I want for use with midi.
For example. 1 = piano (sound 11), 2 = bass (sound 48), 3 = strings, etc
Even when I think I've gone through the process, press Save, and it asks for confirmation, it really didn't save. And yes. I had Protect = Off

Also, when I play midi on synth coming from PC, the "instrument" numbers get assigned properly, but no effects etc are used. Anybody know why ?

It has been a dog's life since I had a D-70 (no really a dog's life!) But I think:

Are you sure you are saving the performance and not the patch. Roland usually (and I think it did on the D-70) consider things like piano #11 a patch. The Multi with the five difference instruments was a performance. If there is a way, make sure you are saving the performance.

I also vaguely remember that there were several ways to route the effects and a minimal number of effects processors (a reverb and chorus, not sure if there was a third effect or not). As a result, the effects when you heard just a patch play were not necessarily what you heard when you play the performance. For example, if you played strings and it used a hall reverb and thick chorus, then when when you went to play your synth lead with delay and phaser, the two effects units were already used (ie ther are two effects units for the whole synth, not per patch). Soooo, what you could do was set the effects units for the performance and route various amounts of each patch through them, or pick one of the patches and have it use the effects designed for it.

Of course, these memories are from many years ago and subject to much degrading over time. Hope this helps.
