I know this is a good mic but, how is it better(if it is) than the mics in its price range such as the akg's?

Yeah,

It's ok....but regarding the 200 dollar price range, one might do better to save just another hundred buckas and get a lot more mic. Or even just 25 bucks and get a C1.

If you are really into trying trying the NT1 out, though, I'd say go ebay and pick one up in nice condition for about 125 bucks.

I just sold my shrill NT1 on Ebay for $145 +$10 s&h. Got a V67G from Sam Ash for $105 on a price match, and a shockmount from GC for another $30. V67 kicks the crap out of the NT1.

I found the NT1 usefull for only two things.

1. micing the Hihat
2. recording a dogs fart, but we've covered that thread long time ago:D

It can do a decent job on an acoustic track or even a clean guitar amp.

That one is probably liked even less around here, if that's at all possible.

I can remember not so long ago (right before the V67 and the C1 came out) when the NT1 was THE mic du jour.

the NT1 was the shit a while back ONLY because there werent a whole lot of alternatives....nobody in this thread is saying the mic sucks.....it doesnt......

the point is, for half the price (Marshall mxlv67m) you can get better....who would pass that up......

there are so many contenders now that kick the crap out of the NT1.....for now, Rode shouldnt enter your mind in mic shopping until you start thinking NTK,NT1000......

>nobody in this thread is saying the mic sucks

Certainly not me. I have one and I like it. :)

one thign we living in the US tend to forget is that other markets pay $$$ for any mic... we get everything for cheap. why? becuase consummerism is rife in the USA and people could sell a boatload of crap without asking. In less populated/rich countries or even in more populated/poor countries the quantity they sell is less, thus jacking the price, and also, we have to look at taxes, Europe has GIANT taxes. So mics in our price range here can be way more $$$ in other parts of the world.

Jamal, the Studio Projects C1 is good investment. The model that is now shipping came with a 10db pad and a roll off filter.

Yea its $40 more than some of the others that are mentioned but my attitude is good mics are tools that I will keep for a long time. I would rather spend a few dollars now to get a little better sonic quality and ruggedness.

In my option the C1 is one of those mics that you will always have in the locker and you can count on. I have used it in a number of different situations and it always surprises me because I forget how good it sounds.

Their tube T3 is also gettting some attention and they are coming out with a B1 for $99. As I said I don't always go for cheapest but I have to admit I am curious to see what they can produce in this price range.

I think what you find as you get further down this road is everyone has their favorites and not every favorite is right for every voice or instrument. Their will NEVER be one mic that does it all. The laws of physics don't work that way, so build up your collection, learn each mics strength and weakness and learn when to reconize which will work best.

Good Luck,

Lee
