you know, it's kind of funny... I love my Re-27 for VO.
It's a bit better at the job then the RE-20, IMO. I've also used the AU variant of the NT-1A (as opposed to the first run, which was chinese... which was a bit harsher in the upper registers).
Another nice mic I have in the collection is the NTG-2. I'm not a huge fan of shotguns, but this one sounds similar to a 419, but a little warmer. That said, my current favorites for VO is the Gefell 930 and the NTG. For my voice, they both give off a wonderful sound and really capture the character of my voice.
I figure this... if you're not sure, then try it in comparision to other mics. Go from there. Not every mic works on every voice. One of the best VAs in the country swears by his Royer 122 Phanom Powered Ribbon. I like it at well, but I don't get the results he does, so I stick with what works for me
