Rock Mix (practice)

Know what? It's good but it sounds like so much other stuff like that, except perhaps for the piano, and that's why I'd make it more prominent in the mix. One of the things I've noticed on this forum is that there are people who know how to write and perform and record and mix. So how do you stand out in a cohort of achievers? Well, the real question is 'do you want to stand out'? Me, I tend not to find myself in a cohort. Simple. You, you're in that rock cohort, even though you tweak it.

Okay, that's harsh. The liquid solo guitar was lovely (although it needs more definition). Your stuff is excellently put together and mixed. I'd still bring the piano way more into the forefront though, both during the verse and the chorus. You heard the new Fleet Foxes album? They explore, and that's where their strength lies. You can do that.

Thank you for the input. I should have been a bit more specific. I had nothing to do with the writing/recording of this song. Mixoff.org is a site where people/bands post raw tracks so people can practice mixing.

I truly hope that, when you say "your stuff is excellently put together and mixed", that you are refering to my mix which is the attached file and not the web link. That would be awesome!!!

The funny thing is, I was trying to not mix it like everyone else would. That's why I cut the guitars on the first verse. But, alas, my newness at mixing is shining through!!!

Thanks again for the feedback. And I do agree, the new Fleet Foxes record is amazing!

Any additional thoughts/critiques would be greatly appreciated.

The vocals are too loud, the drums are totally buried. Bring it all up, especially the snare and kick. Hard to tell how the mix is since the vocals overshadow everything else.
