Does anyone have a clue as to how Fripp gets that guitar sound ??

I've played on one of Fripps guitars. It was a black Les Paul. Played really well, but I had just done a setup on it!:-)

Nothing to do with the thread but just thought you'd like to know.

Figuring out what tuning he is using would be a good place to start. He eschews standard tuning because it "doesn't make any sense" to him.

He calls it "New Standard Tuning" CGDAEG low to high.

Personally I believe he's a bit snobby about it. Elitist wankerism. I don't care if you want to use a different tuning, but leave the rest of us alone. But, as usual, a cult has risen up around it, leading people to believe they can play like him if they adopt his magical tuning and attitude and run around telling people standard tuning doesn't make sense without having a clue as to what they are talking about. Wankers.

Sorry, let my cynicism run away with me.

I think we should let Bill Edwards explain the tuning to him...
:D

Anyway - I can accept that attitude from Fripp...

Strange, as a rule skill and knowledge brings modesty. I guess he's one of the exceptions from that rule.

i just love words like eschew man, it comes from the germanic word eschiuver from which also the dutch word schuwen originates.

BTW fripp is way cool, he also uses a lot of electronics and stuff like ebows and contacts on his guitars - he calls them 'frippotronics'.

frippertronics. awesome. Not exactly sure, but probably lots of tape delays and such.

He used to use 2 reel-to-reel tape decks as the basis of the original Frippertronics. But it should've been called Enotronics (as in Brain Eno) 'cause that's who he got the idea from.

Yeah, tape loops. Belew has been doing it too. He calls them "Belewps". :D
