Did anyone see this deal?
GC is giving you a FREE BLUEBIRD mic, if you buy a Robbie pre for 999.00... which is standard retail anyway.

I've never tried either, and frankly, had a hard time finding reviews (pos or neg) for either.

Any own one of these?

Seems like a frickin' good deal, unless they are two inferior pieces of gear that they can't get rid of...?

There was a positive review of the Robbie in the latest issue of EQ.

I haven't heard one, but the Robbie seems like one of those pieces of gear that is just eccentric enough in design and appearance that it doesn't catch on. All the comments I've read on it have been positive, so it might be a good unit to pick up on blowout.

All of the reviews on the Robbie that I have seen have been pretty good, and I have talked to a few friends that I know that really liked it a lot. The Bluebird however, not so much. But then they are also used to using much nicer mics. But a Bluebird and a Robbie for $999 sounds like a great deal to me:)

Did anyone actually purchase a robby in April (and get the free Bluebird). If so, did you ever hear back about the rebate or receive your bluebird yet? I purchased a Robbie but I haven't received the bluebird yet (you had to mail in for it). The rebate said 4-6 weeks and it has already been more than that. I tried contacting Blue but nobody there has responded to emails (I have emailed twice, once about 2 weeks ago, once about a week ago).
Thanks,
Mike

I only tell this story because it rarely happens with commision based employees. At GC there is one particular guy that I deal with and have since day one. I've bought nearly every piece of gear I own thru him. One day I walked in and asked what mic he recommended, he said the baby bottle and I said nah, too expensive and the pop filter and shockmount don't come with. Again very important that you do your homework when you go there. I said give me the bluebird. He stopped and said man if you're just wanting to save money I'll hook you up if you avoid the bluebird like the plague. I said ok whats the deal. He gave me the baby bottle for the price of the bluebird which was a hundred bucks cheaper, then thru in the shockmount, popfilter and a free blueberry cable for free saving me over 200 bucks. The next week I wanted a mic pre and thought I'd go for the Robbie. As soon as I pointed and said what about that(the robbie) he looked at me and said I wouldn't sell you that thing, its too much packaging not enough performance and he recommened the Brick which is 600 bucks cheaper. When commision based guys stear you clear of a sale of something more expensive to something less expensive but in their opinion better that really makes me lose faith in the "overhyped" gear.

I have actually owned both Robbie and the Brick and I sort of prefer the Robbie over the Brick. I had a friend who worked at GC and I feel like I have a little insight into that store. I think it can sometimes do with how muc h profit they make when selling an item. My friend said that often they will push something that isnt as expensive becasue the store makes more money from that.

I haven't heard the bluebird yet (which is why I posted this), but I do like the Robbie, but I will admit it is pretty bulky for a single channel pre.

If anyone did purchase the Robbie and has heard back from Blue about the Bluebird, could you please let me know? (I'm not normally paranoid about getting free rebates but this is a little more substantial rebate than usual).
Thanks agian,
Mike
