RNP, GAP Pre-73, and Stock Pres with Fat Head

Ok, normally I find these things to be either useless or annoying (which most of you will probably find this), but I thought the results were interesting.

So here are three clips, never mind the pathetic playing and not quite the best mic placement, if you can.

I won't wait to long to post the results, but which to you think is which?

I used the same guitar about 18" out from a FAT HEAD, and played through an RNP, GAP Pre-73, and stock Saffire Pro 40 pres. I have my impressions of each, but let me know what you think. With the GAP I did not try to set it super clean because that is not what most people buy it for.

If you find this worthless, please ignore. If you think I suck and should cut off my fingers for doing something like this, let me know.

Sorry for the way the mp3s posted, I've never done this before on this forum. there are three A.mp3, B.mp3, and C.mp3 and they're all bunched up together.

I like the sound from - in this order A, B, C ... A being the fullest in sound then down to thinnest sounding.

So, Golden Age, (carried the full spectrum) Really Nice Pre (was a bit bassy though) then the Satfire which seemed to have a big mid-range thing going on.

Ok, I guess I messed up when I renamed the clips. It was supposed to be a secret. A is the GAP, B is the RNP, and C is the Saffire Pro 40.

I am glad the results seems to point to what I thought.

The GAP is full and warm and smooth. A bit noisy with the MIC/Line cranked, but acceptable given the sound it gets. Clean it is not noisy at all and sounds really good too! I am not at all interested in the transformer upgrades. Others may find them useful, but to me it sounds great stock.

RNP ultra clean, no noise, a bit bassy, but that can be rolled off. Awesome!

Saffire is harsher on the highs and mid highs. Bass is not as smooth as either. But it is super usable and not at all bad.

Fat Head...Awesome...Get it if you are thinking about it. Very smooth, natural, and way different than the LDCs and SDCs I've been using. I felt it really brought out the character of my guitars and was the sound I've been looking for. Again, this is the stock transformer Fat Head I. I have no desire to get the upgraded transformers and think it sounds great as is.

Hope this may help some out there looking at these pres, and/or this mic!

Sounds like something for the retired 70+ crowd!
I know it's a Chinese thing the "golden age" reference...but it does have a senior citizen vibe to it.
