I was searching online for a cheap but decent hardware compressor and found the RNC compressor. It's got quite a few positive reviews about it and I just want to ask everyone in this forum who owns one of these to write their opinions on it. I really want to try it for myself ,too, to see if it's really that great. I read somewhere online that almost every major studio has at least one. I don't know if that's true or not. For only $200, it's like a joke for all those great reviews.
How is this little compressor compared to the higher end ones? For example, what other high end compressor can this little one stand up to? I understand that it's probably not as good as the 1176 or the Distressor but I've readpeople making comparisons between these. How shocking. I'm undecided right now whether I should get it or not because I'm thinking about saving up for either the 1176 or Distressor. I'm just a little curious about this little thing; if major studios already have those high-end compressors, why bother using this little RNC? Are there some things that the RNC can do that other high end compressors can't do? But hey, for only $200 what have I got to lose?
I also read that the ART Pro-VLA is a pretty good compressor for $300 only. Anyone used it before? Good/bad?
Between the two (RNC and VLA), which one would you prefer? Why?
This will be my first purchase of a hardware compressor. Thanks in advance for any advice or recommendations.
