Ok, who besides blue has any thoughts on this compressor?

why don't you use the search engine on "RNC" and find out.

rgds,
An RNC owner

Just about every working, non-rich pro on every audio BBS you want to look at. If money is no object for you, just order two of everything in the Musician's friend catalog, or better yet call Fletcher and just have him send you a 32-track studio full of his best stuff - otherwise, you should read my last post on

https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?s=&threadid=53654&pagenumber=2

since I wrote that, I've seen some of your other handiwork. You need to go practice recording stuff with whatever you've got and stop threatening people on BBS's. With all the crap you've pulled so far, I'm amazed that bear bothers to even answer your posts, other than for others' benefit. If you really are 15, as you let slip in one of your posts, you need to learn how to interact with adult non-gangbangers so you can live to be 16. Now, go read the post I linked to - at that time, I really meant it. 'specially the part about wishing somebody had done it for me... Steve

For under 200 bucks, there is no other option if your looking for transparent, trouble free and functional compression. The RNC is like being offered a Porche and Ford Pinto prices! Get 2 ;)

Peace,
Dennis

I have a dbx 160 and I am a bit curious about all of the RNC talk. Most of all the endorsers here do have this box and are very happy with it. I trust them when they say they love the thing.

But is it better than the compressor that has been turning out the hits since the 70's? If anyone can tell me that info I may go and get one soon.

Better?? Not sure I'd say that exactly... (cos that's too subjective a term!) - it's certainly more transparent and you can use it easily without actually hearing it!

Sometimes, you DO want a compressor for its effect (ie, it colors the sound) - if so, then you DON'T want the RNC...

Well, I have one. I think it's pretty good. Transparent. It's kind of cute, too.

I could try to synthesize the opinion of others who are far more knowledgeable than I, but you can find out the same thing with a search on r.a.p.

You have conviced me that it is a worthy purchase... now I have to get arround my pet peeve about 1/2 rack size gear.

Well, they actually have a faceplate that connects two together, and it's only like 35 bucks. So that solves my problem. Im gonna buy four, and 2 dbx 1066's.

Uh oh. It's a third of a rack space. Is that even worse?

Oh God no. that is the only thing worse, Its like buying hot dogs by the ten and they only sell buns by the 8. Christ on a cracker why does life have to be so complicated. Now Ill have to buy 2 nano peices of shit to fill the space.:(

Mercenary makes a way cool faceplate that rackmounts two rnc's together in one space.

This will prob'ly be the 18th time I've stated this!!!

Cuzzin' Brucie sold me on the RNC 2 years ago (also harrassing me into purchasing the Lex MPX 500 which I did)! "D@mn", I thought upon looking over this tiny lil box with minimum controls and a dull, simplistic appearance. Furthermore,it ain't rackmountable!!! I too wanted more bells,whistles,doo-dongers
with a phase-dubilated, omega-psi-epsilon, solar graphic VU meter!!! However, after connecting unit and experimenting with diff instruments, track & group insertions, var attack & ratio levels, etc.,mannnnn this bad-boy impressed me something fierce!
I thought i knew what basic comping, gating, levelling sounded like after 1st purchasing the dreaded 3630, than all 3 of Beh's comps,
(Bruce, I don't care what U said, I still like the Composer Pro
:) ) and the dBX, but until I sat with the ugly lil box,I knew my ears were tuned to mediocre equipment! Again, the RNC is 1 heckuva' unit and with Cuzzin' Brucies info again, I also purchased the crazee-@ss 19"rackmountable face plate to hook into my rack! Don't get burned like me, start your mornings with a RNC! THE BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS!!!:p

Hey...I don't own a RNC, a dbx whatever ('cept some old noise reduction units:eek: ), nor a.....what are they...ah....a C1...ah......ah....
what was the question? was it a question??

That's pretty funny! I have 2 RNC's and a Nanoverb in my rack side by side (right above my Great River MP2, quite a juxtaposition!)
How about buy another RNC and 1 nano piece of cr*p? Nanocr*p is about $90 bucks or so, vs. the RNC $175, heck buy 2 more RNCs and no Nanos!

Say No to Nano!

I got turned on to all these great audio forums when I saved a "search for RNC" link that led me to rec.audio.pro several years back. Had 166's, a 160xt, and a Valley People 610 at the time. Ther're all very useful of course, but the rnc's are were a step up.
More versatile, and cleaner. As nice as the 160's auto mode is, on vocal or bass for example, not being able to tune it's timing leaves it often lacking IMHO. (The 160vu or SL I have not tasted.)

tyler657recpro Ok, what's better, an FMR RNC, or a DBX 1066?

Mark at FMR has raved about the ST-8. I can't swing $3k, so I don't want to know...

For all you folks who need impressive bells, whistles, blinking doo-dads, etc. to make their studios look kewl, check out Funk Logic. They make a Palindrometer and some other pieces that will be just the ticket!:D

The new dbx stuff suffers from comparason to the old stuff.
