Hi there, it looks like RME has, or is, releasing this unit this year sometime. It sounds pretty sweet in that is actually uses PCI-e, instead of just having the same PCI architecture but on a PCI-e board.

My only thing is I don't know much about the AES format.... I know it is a standard developed by the Audio Engineers Society, and that it sends two channels of audio with one XLR connection, but other than that, not much. Is there a performance gain using AES?

Sounds like there will be a huge gain in the PCI-e format alone!

Thanks!

AES is a digital format. Most prosumer stuff won't be using it.

All their stuff will be available in PCIe by summer. Already have PCIe MADI and HDSP cards out there.
