RME Hammerfall to BX8 Studiophile

Hey, A friend of mine just asked me to ask u guys this (he doesnt have internet connection)

He's go an RME Hammerfall project, but he is having problems connecting his monitors to that soundcard, some people advised him to get a A/D box which will solve this problem, but he hasnt got money for that. he is now wondering if it is possible to connect his monitors directly to the sp/dif on his sound card by using this cable -> http://www.leisure-lynx.com/products/full_info.asp?id=12 or is their another solution?

Definitely not, unless his monitors accept a digital input signal.

It's not the cable that's significant in his situation, it's the fact that the Hammerfall only has digital I/O and his monitors are very likely expecting analog inputs. He needs a D/A converter in between the Hammerfall and monitors if he wants to use that card for monitoring.

Probably cheaper just to buy an Audiophile sound card and use that for monitoring (being fed digitally by the Hammerfall....)
