Trailing Behind Again
What is it? I don't wanna sound like a newb, but I just downloaded Reaper to try it out and noticed it was off. I don't know what it is, so I don't know if I want to turn it on.

Somebody help out a dumbass? :D

I'll take a guess for the hell of it. Maybe it means it automatically crossfades when you edit 2 parts together.

I have no idea what I'm talking about.

I have no idea, but I did install Reaper on my laptop. I've only used it in the stock format....how it initially installed. Try that first, and see how it works for you.

I don't use Reaper, but generally it refers to whether edits at one section in the time line "ripple" to subsequent objects in the timeline. For instance, if you delete a section, does everything after that section move forward in time to fill the gap, or stay in place. Conversely, a paste or place can either push subsequent objects out further in time, or keep them in place. Wavelab uses the same terminology.

Ah, if that's the case it's the same thing I have in my TASCAM 2488. Except that it's also different terminology. They just use: "COPY/PASTE" "COPY/INSERT" "MOVE/PASTE" "MOVE/INSERT".

Not sure on the Tascam, but "ripple editing" can act on a single track or on the whole project (i.e. all tracks).

Of course, you don't always want that, so you get a choice of whether to apply it, and if you do, in what mode.

This thread will become a lot more helpful when someone that uses Reaper comes along. :p

I've been on Reaper for a while and to be honest, I don't know exactly what all the uses for ripple editing are. It's nice to be able to drag all the tracks back or forward in time to add in parts when banging out song ideas. Other than that, I haven't a clue. I'm doing pretty much everything I could do in Cubase and more but there are some features in Reaper that I probably don't even know exist yet. That's cool with me. They'll be there for me to discover when I need them. :D

does reaper have a help section
It was missing that file when I tried to open it. I haven't registered Reaper yet because I want to make sure that I like it.

I think I understand ripple editing now. I don't think I would ever use it, though.

Thanks everyone for the help!

When things get so frustrating and you're about to pull your hair out, reach for a bottle of Ripple. A glass or three works every time.
That means "I don't know either." :D
