Well, this one had quite a few issues from the start, but I think it came out decent considering the obstacles. Anybody have any suggestions to make it a bit better?

Erm... vocals aren't sitting right, though they are decent. I don't really like the drums - they aren't bright enough, but this might be suitable for this genere. The toms sound like crap though. Guitar seems a little muddy. I think the bass sounds good, but I can't really hear it.
 
i'd maby work on the snare sound some. maby cut some mids (or lows?)and add some hi freq, but i'm stabbing in the dark here

one git, the right (????) i think but i'm not sure, is laging a very small amount. if your in a daw i'd try slideing it up about, oh i don't know, 5-10 ms??? it sounds like latency, not a playing issue. but maby i'm wrong, and plus that's just a bad idea any way.

maby turn the vox down a little, but that may be dipping into the land of opinion

i'd like more kik

and more body to the bass, it seems like it's all hi and low.

I agree with giraffe on the more body to bass. Other than that, I liked it. Sounds like some indie label stuff I've acquired over the years.

The snare unfortunetly got hosed in the tracking, so I had to eq a terrible "pinging" sound out, that left it pretty dull - you are right though, it needs some more "crack" to it.

They wanted the vox "up front", so that is why it is that way.

I'll try and add some more body to the bass sound, although, that's the way he had it sounding - real scooped.

Oh, and the kick, yes, it needs more, I have had a terrible time getting it to sit right.

All these pretty much apply to this second track, too. Needs more bass and more defined drums. The guitars sound overly fuzzy and lack body (which would probably be less noticeable if the bass was filling in the gaps). I must admit, I don't really understand the appeal of this genre, so take my comments accordingly. :D

Any of the guitar or bass problems can be shaped to be okay in the end.

The drums,....Gunnar dude, youve got a pair of km184's dude!!!

Get those drums into a decent room with wood floors, get them into you garage with the concrete, put them in thekitchen with the linolium, DO SOMETHING.

And room mics, provided you can get into a decent size room, will help you immensley. Are you micing the bottom head of the snare BTW?

I think as far as the drums go, I tend to favor the really dry sound, although, after listening to the track again, the drums don't sit right with the guitars. I completely hear what your saying.

And tell me if thats too much live sound in the drums. It's only part of a song that's not finished yet, but was recorded at my studio (the other songs drums were not). These were done in a nearly 1000 sq foot room with hardwood floors and a 12 foot vaulted cieling.

Weve played a few show with them.

And, yes that sounds MUCH BETTER!

Why on earth arent you using that drum room all the time?

Okay I'm taking offense to MY drum room!
How is it that drum tracks need to be bright in the first place?
Why cant the Ambience be added to taste rather than a big room sound that is the only thing to give the drums ring?
I'm sorry but I've been working on my room for Years to give it a dead sound.
#1 I can play anytime I want
#2 I can actually hear myself better rather a whole bunch of Cymbal WASH!
#3 Isn't it better to mix to a dry recording than try to take out the Reverb HALL?

I'm new to recording and know this is not the norm. but I love my Raw Drum
sound! Maybe I need a Maple kit in there or a little bit of reflection,but
I hate the empty concert Hall effect! and Yes I play on a tight marching
snare drum to reach Nirvana! :)

I'm not venting just frustrated,Sorry :(
