i do love smilies...
hi there.

i recently recorded a song, and to get a slightly radiohead-esque sound to the guitar solo, i used a Bad Monkey over drive pedal, and then added a 'ring modulator' plugin on Cubase.

the final effect is on the recording of "Please Don't Learn" at http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=558365 towards the end of the song.

i was just a-wondering if anyone had any thought how i could achieve this effect live? i'm thinking maybe some heavy flanging effect might help, with some very short delay, but i was wondering what was possible with the Electro Harmonic Micro Synth... has anyone used this, and have any idea what it's capable of? my last thought would be trying to pick up something like a second hand Kaoss Pad (which i think would be useful for other things too.) and use a very short sample of some playing, and use the Kaoss Pad like only a Kaoss Pad can be used :p

any thoughts?

Moog makes a few ring mod pedals, and I believe Electro-harmonix does as well. I'm not sure if it's the one you refer to or not. I love it, just some great noises.....

I was actually gonna get the Snarling Dawgs Mold spore which is a wah/ring mod that obviously you can control by foot. I don't know that I would go dropping hundreds of $$$$$ into it unless you plan on really utilizing the hell out of it.

see my band does some experimental noise type stuff, especially live before we actually start the set as well as in between songs. I'm not positive but I think you may able to do something similier with that Digitech whammy pedal as well.

aha, yeah. i'd forgotten about the whammy. and the moog is also very tempting, i've got to say. just a bit pricey!

but i've just found the Electro Harmonix pedal you were talking about... the http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ElectroHarmonix-Frequency-Analyzer?sku=153301 thingy? i'm in Britain, so it's probably going to be a bit more expensive, though if i buy off the continent it might be cheaper... and it looks like the best option so far.

ta :)
