can anyone tell me...what does it look like? What is it anyway...

See I'm from the Netherlands, and I must say... I'm really at home in the English language....yet I have no damn clue what this stuff is everybody keeps talking about!

Help would be appreciated :D

It's fiberglass that is pressure-treated into a fairly solid, rigid, slab of insulation. Available in 3-lb. and 6-lb. density here in the states, it's usually sold in 24" x 48" batts in thicknesses anywhere from 1",1-1/2", and 2". Stateside RFSB runs about twice the cost of Rockwool for similar density/thickness. The industrial use of RFSB is to insulate HVAC systems. They glue pins on the ductwork and use a washer to hold the insulation in place. When you cut it, you'll want to wear long sleeves and a dustmask, and if you have a HEPA vacuum handy that's even better.

www.owenscorning.com The O/C product is 703 or 706.

This is an example...

so..is it more similar to rockwool, or to acoustic foam? Asbastes?
and..rigid... how rigid? rubber-like rigid? Plaster-like rigid? Ceiling-panels-like rigid?

Should I be able to go to my local store to get this kinda stuff?

In the US it's only available through commercial insulation wholesalers.

It's rigid like a rice wafer is rigid. You cut the stuff with a kitchen knife. You can pull it apart easily longitudinally, but not so easily at 90-degrees to that. You can poke your finger through it. It's rigid enough to maintain it's shape, but it's not solid.

Know what I mean???

ah..rice wafers... just had one this morning :p
I think I know what you mean..thanks.

PS great signature :D
