There's no irony except in your head. I don't have any religious feelings for analog tape or how it will be remembered. It’s not a celestial entity to kneel before or a deceased friend to eulogize. Your language is patronizing and very telling of your profound misconceptions concerning the current role of the technology, and the experience and sophistication of those who use it. I find the tone offensive; so distracting as to make an attempt to answer seem futile.

You might just as well go to an African American cultural forum to extol the qualities of watermelon and fried chicken.

Your assessment of my point of view is incorrect. I cannot engage you if you cannot comprehend my posts for lack of background. What you have written is a mischaracterization. It is not what I think or practice.

You've got a bit of a journey ahead of you, Tim. I simply don't have time to take it for you. I can't correct all your misconceptions, one after the other, ad infinitum. You'll have to search them yourself. However, your effort would be better spent reading some standard works on the subject. Most of your questions would be answered there. No, they’re not on the web.

A person's experiential knowledge is most valuable when built upon a foundation of technical learning. IMO, debating the fundamentals is not the best use of our time.

I'm accustomed to swimming deeply in the waters of music recording, for many, many years. I don't care to go back and discuss what people see faintly from the surface.

I didn't intend to spend my entire time as lifeguard when I joined this forum. I'd like to have a recreational swim with my peers now and then. I'm sure you understand.

So you dont copy all your Redbook CD's to analog tape and burn back to Redbook CD?
If I was mistaken on that, I apologize.

Still, you might care to read post #34 on this thread. You might find it interesting.

Let me clarify…

“I do something similar -- record all my NEW CDs to reel-to-reel and back to CD with a stand-alone burner. I prefer the sonic character to the original CD. It takes the edge off.”

I also prefer chocolate ice cream to vanilla and dark, bitter chocolate to sickenly sweet milk chocolate.

You see, Tim. I can’t say it any other way, unless you prefer a different language or for me to have a different opinion. It’s not what I’m saying that’s the problem. It’s the broad meaning you attach to it because of your technical deficiency that’s at issue. This is what needs to be remedied, and I’ve given you some direction to doing that.

A point-by-point “answer” to your misconceptions would be like trying to discuss the effect of fixed-wing aircraft icing on drag coefficient with someone that doesn’t know what an altimeter is. I don’t intend to put you through ground school just so we can have an informed discussion.

You’re not demonstrating anything to the members here but your lack of understanding.

Good advise. After my last post I guess I should offer this one for Tim G.

Beck,
I wasnt for a moment questioning your right to do what you like with your CD's and tapes. I was questioning its audio basis. I thought discussing issues like that was what these columns were about. Perhaps I'm mistaken on that.

I suspect the vast majority of people on this earth would consider your actions in this regard, a bit beyond a mere "preference" for bitter chocolate, and more an eccentricity. But still a harmless eccentricity. Hence your right to continue it would not be in question for a moment.

Best wishes, Tim G

Seemed more like badgering rather than discussing, at least to me...

I asked the vast majority some time ago if it was ok with them if I left their ranks, as I was much happier being one in a million. They seemed to be ok with it. But seeing as so many of them were Chinese I'm not sure that they understood what they were agreeing to… so you may be right.

Aren't we Analog folk already "eccentric" by the very definition ? Aren't we "departing from a recognized, conventional or established norm or pattern" ? Of course we are! That's why we're here and wouldn't want it any other way! OMG!

I don't want to say anything about "quality" of recording... because of based on what?... it sounds ok (like sh*t that is) as some sort of digital streaming format... ;)

I WISH I could watch those. Soon a new computer. I can barely stream an MP3 online.
