rig for live audio

This thread comes from the first page of the "choosing a computer for live audio" thread. I wanted to use a computer for guitar&vocal fx's, some sampling and, well, I hadn't think too much about mixing. I've been suggested that using a computer both for mixing, fx and samples may not be a good idea, and con ritmo posted some links I followed. Then I posted some links like these

http://remixmag.com/mag/remix_live_pa/

http://www.modsquare.com/modsquare_...id=191_0_27_0_M

http://www.brainspawn.com/images/marillion01.jpg

and then I posted what I think would be a proper live set for the small band I play in at the small venues in which we plan to start:

gt5 (guitar fx)->mixer-(send)->ableton(pc)-(return)->mixer->amp or whatever
tr5 (drum module)->ableton with sampler&s/synths(pc)->mixer->amp or whatever

(vocals and maybe bass would follow the same path as guitar)

That's the conclussion i'm starting to reach. But, correct me if i'm wrong, I need to control the computer fx parameters from the gt5 and there are parameters (like mix/wet) that i wouldn't be able to control if my signal follows that path. Would this be the proper way to set a computer in a live gig (small gig)?

thanks!

You have a photo of Marillion's very complex and very expensive keyboard setup as one of your links --- is that a clue as to what you'd like us humble HR guys and gals to talk you through setting up and operating?

First of all, if you're going to be the operator of this complex rig here are links to two good articles on midi basics - part one and part two. They may be a little too basic for you, but we can all use a refresher course now and then...

You have placed your question in the 'Computer...' forum when I think what you're asking for is midi help.

er... no, in fact I don't care about marillion's setup, it was just to illustrate that a computer was being used in a live setup, with all its stability issues involved as it has been discussd earlier.
I don't want to create such a complex setup, but it does not seem to be a bad idea to take a deeper look at all that midi stuff. I think I'll end up using a computer as a multifx unit instead of using it as some kinda mixer, which was my first intention.

Thanks!
