I have been a fan of Seals & Crofts music from the very first moment I listened to their music. It was also my good fortune to have seen them perform in concert during the height of their popularity in the early 1970’s.

Riding Thumb is just one of their compositions that I have always had a fondness for. Their version was recorded at a much faster tempo with Jim Seals on guitar, Dash Crofts on mandolin, and the guitar of Louie Shelton.

I opted to record a cover version with one 12 string guitar, bass, and a few vocal tracks.

I would greatly appreciate opinions regarding the vocal mixing, because I consider it a weak point that I seem to be continually struggling with, mostly because my voice…..sucks!

Sounding pretty good Randy. Vocals could probably use some compression...they seem to not sit within the song all the time. I think all in all, the performance is good, and it just needs a bit of tweaking. It might not be the vocal by itself you need to compress. Maybe a bit on the entire mix will even out the whole thing. I have it in Audition right now, listening again with a multiband compressor on it, and boosting the volume a bit. Some of teh backing vocals are still a bit quiet in comparison, but the mix as a whole seems more cohesive. Keep tweaking man.... :D

I had trouble concentrating on anything but the bass !! I love that bassline and the tone is awesome.!!!

I agree with Dog about the vox.

Damn that bass sounds good. :D

Will do Ed!

I suspected that the backing vocals were weak. I was timid, cuz they kinda sucked overall. :o

:o :o :o
I apologize for that.

I forgot that this isn't The Cave.

Sorry! :o

I agree with True - the bass is very nice in this tune. The 12-String and the vocals seem to need a bit of boost in the lower mids/bottom end. Try not to step on the nice bass frequencies though. The guitar also seems a bit far back in the mix. Good choice of tune - I was also lucky enough to see them play, and must say that they had one of the best live mixes (and performances) I have ever heard in the crappy auditorium setting.

:D :) :D :)
