I played my first Ric today, a 5 month old 360/12. It felt like it was made for me, although I think it looks a little funny, reminds me of the Jetsons! RUTRO! The Fireglo finish is awesome. I instantly adapted to that small neck, I have played many 12 strings before but this was like majic. It sounds great with some overdrive and it sounds great pristine clean. You can get alot of sounds out of this axe. It actually resembles an axe more than any other guitar. I was wondering about the maple top, it is solid right? Is it prone to splitting like acoustics? I have an ES-335 but it has a laminated top so I dont worry about it splitting in the winter. I was wondering how easy it is to do drop fill touch ups on the finish. I routinely touch up my other guitars that are nitro-cellulose, it blends perfectly. I understand RICs have a catalized varnish. The smell of the finish is a little foriegn. Well I am proud to be the owner of an awesome guitar and a slice of history!

Congratulations. Pics pls..

Here are some pictures, supercreep. Do you have pictures of yours? I took the trussrod cover/nameplate off to adjust the neck. RICs have 2 trussrods! That is cool. To take off the cover you have to move all the strings over to the side to get the cover out, not cool!. Then you have to put all the strings back and retune, then make adjustments. I think this cover will go in a special drawer where all my truss rod covers and pickguards live!

I would rather look at your pictures! Does it still look that good? Have you discovered any pros and cons 2 years later?

It's perfect.

I've had zero issues with it. Check out the link to our website in my signature - there's a song linked called Lady Policeman which features the 360 prominently.

My only recommendation is to store your guitars in their cases whenever possible.

I have a Danelectro 12,it plays like a dream and I got ot with a case for $200 NEW.If I played electric 12 every day I might consider something a little nicer.

Hey that guitar playing was a little Page-esque! Why do you suggest to store in the case? I like to leave mine on the wall.

Nice guitar Pete. I gotta say though that truss rod covers on Gibson's are expendable but on a Rick they need to be on! It ruins the vibe if they're off in my opinion. Either way, cool score.

I know, I am trying to figure out how to get it back on without messing with the strings and detuning.

Danelectro 12 strings sound and play great, in my experience. I don't own one, but have played plenty of them, and they would be my first choice for an electric 12 every time.

The fact that I'm poor only has a small part to play in this decision.

Strings

I have been experimenting with various strings. I have done this before when I had an EDS-1275. I like to make the G strings unison plain steel. This way I have half of the gutar set up the same, all unisons. It is great for leads. I also like to make the 3 remaining octave strings plain steel also. It makes the whole guitar much more balanced when you do a run from low E to high E. All the strings have the same timbre.
Has anyone else tried anything similiar?

You should be using flatwounds on that 360-12.

Pete,

Very very cool and congrats mate. I love Rics. I'm a huge Jam/Paul Weller fan and through that bought myself a dark blue 330 about 10 years ago. Fantastic guitar to play and sounds great through my Marshall.

Duly noted the talk about being difficult guitars for techs to work on, but so what. If i'm paying a tech by the hour to do the work, I don't give a fuck how hard it is for him to work on.

Anyway, well done mate. Good score!

I experimented with the strings on my 360/12. This is what I came up with
10

13

17

11
26 wound

17
36 wound

22
46 wound

I started with a set of GHS Boomers Light. Then I changed the octave G with a unison 17. Finally I changed the wound octave E string to a plain steel 22. The guitar now is well balanced. The 3 unison sets are nice for leads and the 3 octave sets are balanced because they each have a wound and a plain steel. As it turns out, intonation is almost perfect between the wound string and its octave. 2 wound strings an octave apart can never intonate the same. but a wound string and a plain steel string can. They are so close they both ring out as one with no noticable beating.
