which one do you prefer and why? i'm talking mainly about the mark I and the 200A, but you can talk about other models that you like better. just tell me why you like 'em.

They are both great. I mean, if you mean the original ones and no digital simulations.

Here in Europe a Rhodes or a Wurlitzer are extremely expensive. Also parts, like a tone iron (or how do you call that small plate) from the rhodes are extremely expensive. but it's sound just makes me melt. The same for Wurlitzer. Making a choice is like chosing between sex and music. Which of the two you want? Both!!!

yes, the original ones. they run for $500-700 on ebay right now.

This is a poser, I tell you what.

I've had a Rhodes for about 10 years. There's nothing like it.

I've played Wurlies here and there. There's nothing like that either.

I want to say Wurlitzer because, well, I don't have one and the grass is always greener, you know?

I want to say Rhodes too, because, it's what I have it plays great and I had a postal relationship with Harold Rhodes for a while before he died and I feel a strong sense of loyalty.

I can't decide.

If I was just gonna have one, the Rhodes...But the wurlitzers are fun too. If you want both, get a General Music Real Piano pro. It has absolutely the best rhodes, wurly and Piano sound in existance...Short of the real thing. Doesnt quite have the feel of the original rhodes or wurly, but the sound is there.

The wurlitzer is a bitch to tune...IIRC you have to put solder on the tines and file it down. Dont buy one that is out of tune.

how much? :)

This subject always makes me sad!

The first keyboard I ever owned was a Farfisa "Fast 4' Organ. My next keyboard was Rhodes, Fender Rhodes, the stage model with the speaker on the bottom and the silver cover on top. It was a great instrument but ultmately, I believe I sold it becuase I wanted the suitcase model. The suitcase model was also a Fender Rhodes. These were some of the early productions of Rhodes pianos. I used to know how to change the tines, hammer tips everyting. I was quite good at playing and working on the things.I sure wish I had kept those instruments. They cannot even be replaced nowadays. BTW, the KAWAI MP 9000 (now the 9500) has great Rhodes and Wurlitzer sounds and the feel is extrodinarly good. Don't know how it compares to the General Music instrument, however, it blows te other digital pianos away, particularly in the feel department.

how does the gme pro do in the midi field? what about the acoustic piano sounds?

Its a decent midi controller, nothing fancy, but the acoustic piano is where it really shines. I tried everything out there, and nothing sounded as real to me, except the real thing of course. It also has a few, but good effects.
