Another flick in quick succession I know.
I've found that using the 224 MP3 works best for WMM. When converting to FLV with Super I can force the retention of that audio rate (it's default is 92 which explains a lot about Youtube vids & audio prior to the HQ upgrade) thus maintaining better quality sound than previously. If you'd rather go directly there for a squiz of the larger HQ image & audio here's the standard link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tvT2Ef6mlk
The song is Revolution Blues recorded to 4 track cassette with Terry doing vocals & sax (the reverb on the sax is from playing in a shower recess printed to tape), me playing bass (there's a blooper I'll have to fix one day) and guitar. The 'cellos (I tracked about six times with a variety of mics) were added via DAW some time later.
The narrative is a little reflection on Laos & its troubled times.

You gotta tell me more about that FLV converter, it sounds FANTASTIC!!!

Just so that I don't leave out something that is the undiagnosed key to the result I've listed the process I go through:
• I start with a wav. file & convert it to MP3 using Easy CD Extractor’s Easy Audio File Converter.
• I select these options:
MPEG Layer 3 (LAME 3.92) and 224 kbit/s (High Quality)
• I then drag that converted file into Windows Movie Maker & not have any problems with it (higher rates cause it to stall, stutter & not even recognize the file so this is the compromise setting I’ve opted for.)
• After completing the video I save the Movie File to computer as WMV file – I opt for best quality to save to computer.
• I then open Super (a free converter that is very hungry but good – needs 20gig free space to operate plus a host of other prerequisites that it checks before operating).
• Select Output as FLV & the default encoding/package across the top.
• In the Audio section the default is 92kbit/s so I select 224 from the drop down box
• Drag the WMV into the box
• Hit go & that’s it.
• The result, unless specified beforehand, turns up in a folder called Output nestled inside the unzipped bundle of files associated with Super (that took me ages to work out).
• There’s a diff of about 1.5 meg between the size of the final product of a 23.8 WMV rendered as FLV with audio at 92 (11meg) & 224 (12.3 meg).
Whatever it is that works is amongst all of that somewhere.
Thanks for your kind words!

And where would be the best place to get Super from?

Llarion,
the last time I downloaded it (after an HDD crash) was from:
http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
The actual download link is way down, down, down the page - be careful that it's the right link too as there a oodles of different things being offered. Just take your time & read as you go. The only thing it doesn't seem to encode is TO FLAC (though it'll decode from it) and TO/FROM RMV.
Bon Chance!

Page won't load, but thanks, I'll keep plugging at it!

That's really good Ray. Getting better with each video. I don't remember hearing this song before. I like it. :D

Why thank you Greg.
It's pretty old & I think it was the 2nd or 3rd one I put up for comment some time ago!
Glad you like it - it was when i followed you mantra more closely "keep it simple & fun".

Really cool Ray, you always do a great job with visualizing the imagery of your music/lyrics....listening on phones...cool how the soundfield gets really wide when the cello(?) sax(?) comes in around 1:30..nicee! Like the movement of the bass guitar thru out...maybe could come up a little in the mix...keeps things hopping !Great Job!

Ray, man you're getting really good at this. It sounded great. I loved the song. Your performance and recording was top notch.

Nice. That looks like a pain in the ass digging up that many videos and photos about this subject, but it's very cool.

Maybe it's my headphones, but this songs sounds kind of mono until around 1:30 where the droning wind instrument kick in. It's a nice change of pace in there. I'm hearing a light tapping (ride cymbal on the left side) and an occasional light crash over on right, but I'd love to hear more things panned around.

Cool tune with a good message.

Another good one, Ray!
I'm glad you reminded me. I have almost forgotten my favorite forum.
This site is crowded with talented and helpful people and there is no excuse for me to ignore it for a several months.

Holy Carp! That was superb! Kinda has a Ray Davies meets Mark Knopfler vibe to it. Very cool arrangment and the lofi was incredibly well done. Three cheers for the trusty 4 track. The video was well conceived....I wish I the creative chops to do a full on AV project, but I'll just stick with what I got I guess.:)

Great concept and excellent execution....got no nits to pick whatsoever.

queepy,
Thanks mate - it's only 1 guitar, bass, vocals, sax & Roland drum machine all pretty much up the middle excpet for some reverb on the guitar to give it some spece so the percussion & cellos were the only chance to spread things. It made sense to go wide with the middle 8. Glad you liked it - that means something!
guitar zero,
You're a generous fellow. I'm pleased you enjoyed it. IN almost all aspects it's K.I.S.S.
Robertt8,
This vid was really easy - about two hours from trawling Utub to saving the finished piece. I didn't need to add any fancy stuff like fades & transitions as the jumps from snap to snippet matched the rough jumping of the riff. the narrowness of the soundstage comes from it being minimalistly recorded to 4 track cassette.
sikter,
Good to see you back again mate. Don't let the cold get to you.
TeyshaBlue,
Wow, such praise! You'll turn my head! I've listened to your stuff - if your visual mind is anywhere within the block of your auditory facilties you could pull this sort of stuff out of a hat! I bow & say THANKS!
