I was reading a recording book today and came across this quote:

"if you have a rhythm guitar part that you set at 30 degrees off to the right of the stereo field, set the reverb 30 degrees off to the left".

Now do they mean adding the reverb to a second rhythm guitar part but panning it 30 degrees right with added reverb? Or do they mean one single rhythm guitar part panned right but adding a reverb panned 30 degrees left? if so, how do I do this with my reverb plugin? (see image attached)

They mean panning a send bus, where your reverb is (inserted)

What they are saying is your rhythm guitart is panned to one direction and that's dry. With an Aux send from the guitar channel, dial in the reverb and bring the reverb RETURN back to the stereo buss and pan that the other way. That gives the guitar a sense of real space.

Yep, create an FX channel with your reverb inserted there. Send your panned guitar to the FX channel. Pan your FX channel the other side. :)

Just my opinion, but I'd only do something like that in a sparse arrangement. I think it's just going to muck up a busy mix.

Agreed. When there are a number of guitars going this will cause mud fast usually. But other times it's great.

Agreed. I do this from time to time with a short delay. It can make a single guitar sound WIDE.

Here dood. Make it look like this.
