I'm trying to decide on a reverb unit. None of the music stores around here carry any of these in stock, but can order them for me. So, I can't actually go hear any of these first. These are all in my price range:
- Alesis Midiverb 4
- Lexicon MPX-100
- TC Electronics M300

Anyone have any strong feelings one way or the other on any of these units? Are there any other units in this price range that I'm overlooking? I wouldn't mind spending the same amount of money on a used reverb unit if it meant I'd get a better one. Any suggestions for used in this price range?

Thanks,

Brad

Generally speaking, I have seen most experienced people that frequent this forum recommend either Lexicon or TC Electronics outboard devices for quality reverb. I haven't compared them, but do own a Midiverb 4. I like the sound of the Alesis and it is VERY versatile as far as dialing in specifically what you want, how much of it you want, and what you want it to sound like. Again, I like my Alesis but have not compared it to the others.

I have them all and they are all different. The Lexicon & T.C. Electronic units do sound better than the Alesis. If I had to pick one.....I'd pick the lexicon because the reverbs sound warmer (just my opinion).

Save up and get a rumour, best reverbs and delays and chorus' around plus th converters are the cats (dare I say it) ass

i personally think the tc would be your best bet as a first reverb processor. cos it's simple sound great. I personally hated the mpx 100 and the midiverb doesn't sound as good as a tc or lexicon unit but it's still a nice machine if you allready have a nice reverb. With the midiverb you'll have to tweak to get what you want but that can be a plus if you know what you are doing because the other units don't give you much tweakability.

I like the M300. It's simple to use, has digital outs and balanced analog outs unlike the Lexicon, and is a pretty good standalone A-D convertor in it's own right. Not the Alesis.-Richie

Thanks again for everyone's input. I'm probably leaning towards the M300. Since I don't have an opportunity to A-B any of these I guess I gotta start with one. If I don't like it I'll try something else. I'd love to try out the Rumour as suggested by a couple of folks....but its still (for now) a little outside my budget. Thanks again!

I have an older, discontinued unit by Alesis called the Wedge, and if you can find one on ebay for about $100 it's well worth it, especially for reverbs.

It's nowhere near the quality of my M3000, but for drums I sometimes prefer it over my M2000.

I would agree that the Kurzweil Rumour is the way to go based on sound quality. The reverbs are nothing short of fantastic! However, I have heard that Kurzweil has applied for reorganization and it's anyones guess what will become of them.
