High shackrock!

Being neither an expert on mixing, nor on rap, I simply try to give my opinion - be it worthy or not :D

I'd use early reflections as verbs only. This gives more of the 'in your face' feeling. Verbs MIGHT come up in the chorus if you have one.

You might wanna try a VERY slight delay (one l, one R) fitting the groove. Turn it down until you almost don't hear it (maybe even on phones). If you get the right amount, you'll be noticing that some room is missing if you switch the delay off, but nothing more. These delays give the impression of a rather large room, but don't mudden, and don't take the directness... one drawback with this delay is that the compression in the mastering stage (if you must have it THAT LOUD), will bring up the delay again... in the quiter parts...

Compress HEAVILY.

Use some double tracking (yes RECORD twice, maybe even with different mics etc.) and hard panning for those parts that need more power...

But remember, I'm only german, and haven't listened too much to rap (except Eminem) in the last years...

I might can help.....

I record rap music too. I think I can help.

Try to record the vocals onto two tracks at the same time. Pan them both left & right. Put like 30ms of delay on the left & 20ms delay on the right. Turn the delay response up to like 50 or 60. Up the treble 3 notches for both tracks. Make sure you record the vocals compressed though. This should give you some nice, crisp soundin' lyrics for the verses. For the hooks though, It all depends what kind of sound you wanna get out of the track. But one tip I can give you, when you do chorus & delay try to make the echo go in-sync with the beat. That'll sound pretty ill.

Hope I helped.
