>>>>So is the Alien Connections ReValver DirectX plug-in the amp simulator for us CakeWalk users, in the same way that Amp Farm is for Pro Tools users?<<<<

I don't know how it compares to Amp Farm, it cost a lot more money than Revalver. I know I like this SE version I got and am soon to upgrade to the full version.

Welcome to the board, William Turner... :) Yess, the upgrade to full version is worth the money. It also gives you "ReValver Live", which is stand alone guitar lines simulator... It turns my $20 bucks guitar into $2000 sound :D

Thanks for the welcome. How is the latency on the ReValver Live part?

...bad thing. 20ms on SB Live!. Never tried it with my Delta 66. Hey... I'll try that...

Geesh I feel really dumb. I have 2 computers, my main one and a server. I just in the last week decided I only need one computer, so I grabbed the best stuff out of the worstation, and augmented my server.

The workstation had LIVE! in it when I bought it (I asked for sound), but I bought an Audigy 2 card last week because my server had no card and I wanted the best sound I could get (that was what I asked for at Future Shop...idiot!!!).

I should have gone to a music store for that, because from what I have read here, Audigy 2 sucks because it works for everything. Not just sound (music) - it's a gamer'ss card, and I only have Chicken Invaders (+TV Wonder)??? he he.... That DOES make sense (who buys an Ibanez or a Fender to make their coffee???).

I have 30 days to bring this thing back - what is in the same price range or maybe $100 CDN more??? (That's about 30$ bucks more AM I believe.)

I'm asking all of this, because the ReValver is totally amazing at this point in time...I don't know midi yet, but with Sonic and reValver...through midi tracks I get absolutely no noise, and I really don't hate the sound. So...how much better can it get???) THERE IS NO NOISE HERE!!!

It took me a long time to get any sound out of the ReValver (CUZ i DON'T KNOW cAKEWALK OR BEERSLEEP YET...iLIKE TO RUN), and I'm glad I stuck with it...ha ha big CAPS!!! lol)...and It's just what came bundled with XL.

I don't ever want to buy another amp for recording again..,I hope I'm not being premature with my praise...I live in an apartment and can't buy any more Doyle cabs/Fender M80's without getting evicted...)

Just my story (in brief)...don't know the actual answer but I like ReValver.

Shawn

Latency is a soundcard-issue... ;)

Yeah you're right.... Just I'll probably upgrade Revalver in the next few days, my sound card/interface and possible CPU and/or MB upgrade is gonna be slow and deliberate. Thought I might get an unexpected surprise wiith the Revalver Live part on an Audigy.

Actually as a stand alone, just sitting and jammin out of a Sonar project. 20ms probably won't be all that bad.

20 ms is considered as "a lot". You'd better get it down under 10 ms, which should be possible with ASIO-drivers. :)

Latency

Can someone please explain exactly what "latency" is? It's a word that I'm sure I need to become familiar with.

Latency
How fast a piece of audio hardware or software responds to real-time commands, such as to mute a track, to add an effect, or to play some audio data.

Yippy... ReValver Live with Delta 66 = 2 ms with DirectX (Direct sound mode).:)

Thanks. I kind of thought it was something along them lines.

What causes a lot of latency?

I think soundcard's driver & internal D/A - A/D architecture is the most responsible for latency...
