after many years roofing, and many accidents, the most recent of which was a fractured ankle, it has been deemed I am unfit for return to that line of work. So what workers comp is gonna do is to retrain me. Im looking for specific schools in the music industry, as well as specific job titles which relate to it. Is there anyone out there who has been through this? What do you think ? (I know general as hell, but I hope you get the idea :D)...(anyone looking for a helpin hand in the calgary area, im sure theyd shoot money your way...)

Sorry, I don't have any leads for ya. That sucks about your ankle. I broke mine in an auto accident last December. Took almost six months for it to be right again where I wasn't limping on it and had full range of motion again.

Good luck.

As far as schools go, I know there is a really good place called Full Sail that is excellent (or so I have heard).

Other than some colleges, this is the only place I can think of for music business classes (and it costs $$$ too, but seems worth it).

Best of luck in whatever you do.

Or you could work for Waldo. He needs a full time fund-raiser person to panhandle money and scour dumpsters for computer parts. Of course this would be volunteer work with no pay and crazy hours. If Waldo starts a business called......hmmmmm

The NWR School of Recording Engineering and Sound Production

Just kidding about Waldo, he's a great guy and a trailblazer in the Indie Music scene. He may be famous someday and we then can say.......What is up with his nose? didn't Michael Jackson have that problem too?

Good luck, Charva

oh, Waldo can be found at

www.nowhereradio.com

I believe he is in the Alberta area

thanks for the replies everyone. Yea busted legs suck eh Sennheiser?...Im actually going for consultation to have the screws removed on wednesday (one sticks out on the ankle bone, feels real nasty when it rubs on something), but Im happy to say it has healed very well. Hopefully yours is the same.

Full Sail sounds interesting, I'll look it up, altho I'm guessing these cheapo compo people are more than likely thinking Im best suited for 7-11 or something:eek: ...bastards...

Are you saying you can find Waldo by his nose?...sorry I dont even know the guy, thats the impression I just got :D...is he really in and around Alberta?...cool...I have a spare 56k modem if he wants :D...maybe even a busted up Compaq too in the near future. At any rate kudos to Waldo for NWR...that place is awesome :>...

Lol, badassmak, I'm right here in Calgary.

I've spent alot of time with the metal scene here in town, live shows and such, and around town as well (lethbridge, strathmore, edmonton). I've cut down in the past couple months though, hernia has got me pretty slow, and money has kept me away from the venues (I tend to drink a bit much when I'm out, lol)

You tell those fuckers you need a desk job. Preferably behind a Neve desk somewhere.

Screw that standin' around crap.

Yeah, my ankle is much better. I can still feel it if I sit in the same position without moving it for awhile, especially while driving. But overall, it's fine now. I think building my room after I had the cast removed was good therapy for it even though it hurt like hell at that time.

lol

far out i had no idea...I guess Ive been a hermit the whole time ive been in calgary...(being in bowness didnt help, it isnt close to anywhere)(excuses excuses :D flame me now)...I was pretty heavy into metal and stuff aways back, more of the really heavier variety too. Nowadays Ill pretty much listen to anything, but will always be a metalhead...hey the hernia and drinking arent hand inn hand are they?jk:D

yea Id say the best thing for an injury like that is too work it again ASAP, I went to a sports therapy place here in town, they work with guys in the NHL and stuff, it was a great help. Beyond Star Trek technology there isnt really a lot they can do. If I cant get a specific job twiddlin knobs, then Ill probably get into the computer end for sure, itd help to pay for all this stuff I owe money on :D

Do yourself a favor, DO NOT get into the computer field here in town. I'm a tech, and have been one for 15 years, you might hear that there is jobs, but there is 10x as many qualified people as jobs. I've been out of full time work since September of 2001.

yea thats always been a kindof up and down field of work at best...my friend went through a bunch of schooling here, and now hes having a bit of a hard time with it. Thats probably one thing thats made me stay away from that thus far. I think the only way that kindof thing would work, would be to get on with the cable company kissing ass all the way, but thats not for me...thats too bad to hear man, at least you've got the other things going on there. My problem is, I specialized in one area so heavily for so long and now I can't do that anymore, so it's really starting from scratch again I find.

Well, I'm still searching for contracts, etc., I've had the odd one that helps me out, but if I don't find a decent job or long term contract by March, I'll be living on the streets (or working in a fucking fast food joint)...

So, I know how ya feel...

hmmm...yea...I have about three days to decide what next lmao, thats the part Im not liking, plus it would seem that they arent interested in doing anything for me thats gonna cost them serious coin...If you ever do construction, get private insurance as well as WCB, I really wish I had lol...hmmm fast food...my brother actually manages a pizza hut, and Ill be damned if he isnt making decent money freak me out...he is now into profit sharing there as well, lucky bastard. So if you do the fast food thing go Pizza Hut lmao.

I guess when it comes down to it I cant really afford to be doing a lot of schooling, nor do I want to. It seems everyone I know thats been through it has a nice big loan to pay back. And are struggling. I prefer a hands on thing really.

Anyhow thanks for the replies, its getting me thinking and stuff...best of luck too.
