Retiring the 01V..Need large console

I've finally decided to retire the 01V. First off I need more space and routing to go to the ADATs. Second, I feel that the pres are holding me back, I want better ones. Eventhough the 01V would make a great live mixer, I need to sell it to pay for a new board. :(

What I really need is a board with either an expandable 24 channel or a 32 channel recording platform. Lots of direct out and routing options too. Main issue I have is selecting a quiet board with great pres. I do not wish to upgrade again anytime soon. So I want to do it right the first time. Aside from outboard pres I want to use the board pres tastefully. I have been eying the Mackie 8 bus series but have read that the EQs are the flaw of their pres. I like the price and availablility. If I had the money I'd flat out buy a new Ghost console. I can't even find one used! I was incredibly close to buying a Mackie 32-8 though that fell through and made me do some thinking. I need a large mixing console, lots of ins/outs, nice pres and good price used, say $3,000 used at the max. Suggestions?
 
I think a Ghost would be your best bet... How much are new 24-ch. LEs going for now days?

I saw an ad from the 5th of this month of a guy selling his Ghost 32-ch. with meterbridge, power supply, and argosy console. He's asking $3000 or best offer, will also consider trades. He's in NYC and says he'd prefer it to be picked-up, but if that doesn't work for you, I bet you could work it out to be shipped. Let me know if you'd like his email address to see if it's still available.
 
That sounds awfully cheap for that sdt up. Is this for real or what. What is the e-mail addressa and what does he want to trade, another console, other gear?
 
Yeah, Ghost is the shit for a budget large console...

accept no substitutes.

A 32ch. big boy Ghost goes for 6,200 now on 8thstreet.

Im giving my soundcraft ghost 32 with the 24 channel expander back to my old partner, and he's probably selling it cheaper than 6k for both pieces

Not as full function and modern but soundwise theres no comparison. Its not even an inline console! eeek...oh well its only for monitoring ( keep telling myself that ). Its got nice eq's and mic pre's but Ill prolly never use em.
I never ran final vocals thru that ghost's mic pre's but I did use the eq once for summing on voc's. People can laugh all they want but that ghost sounds pretty nice, and the eq's were REALLY powerful and detailed.
 
Don't shoot me, I really want a Ghost but don't really have the doh for it now and need something to track with. I am thinking about selling the 01V and getting a cheap Mackie 32-8. I've seen em go for $1500 and with the cash from my 01V it shouldnt hurt my wallet too bad. I just aquired 24 tracks of XT20s and nothing to hook em to! Put it this way, the pres on my 01V are really driving me nuts! It sounds to me like everything I record is getting covered with a huge blanket and I end up having to EQ the hell outta everything on Cakewalk to add some life to my mixes. Can you say cardboardish?? Are the Mackie pres significantly better or will I just end up wanting to sell the Mackie board after one mix? It wouldnt be hard to re-sell it on eBay if I ever do get the money for a Ghost, I'd just be out shipping costs really. At this point I'm only trying to find a board for tracking and getting down some ideas. Maybe do some demos too, I dunno. I'm definately saving for some quality aftermarket pres. The 01V pres have an awful dulling effect on everything I've tried, even through the MSP10s which I feel are a little on the bright side.
 
Yeah, I've got an O1V that's moving towards retirement too.
The main thing I don't like about it's pre's is that they don't have much gain. My sound fairly clean to me, as long as they're not driven too hard.

As I use a DAW, and have numerous routing options within it, I may consider just a control surface like the newer mackie, and just go with total outboard pre's.

I'd love to have a Ghost too. $5300 is the cheapest I've found them.
Of course, a Sony DMXR100 would be choice!;)

Save your pennies and get a Ghost. For the money, it is untouchable! It is not really the kind of console that you say "boy, this just doesn't sound all that hot", even if you are used to something a bit higher class.

Again, for the money, the Ghost is a GREAT deal. Unless you need to get into serious automation, I don't think there is a much better deal out there in terms of cost vs. quality.

Im kinda bummin on this new trident. Facilities wise the ghost murders the trident so bad its not even funny! Stereo fx returns, inline design, +4 2 track returns, multiple headphone mixes, etc, etc, etc... If I DIDNT have to pay for it, I'd keep it and wouldnt have gotten the trident. But oh well, if my partner wants to knock a chunk off my debt by buying a different console, so be it!

The ghost is a full facilities board with very little functional routing diference than an SSL. It even has more headphone mix options! Less busses, no internal dynamics and no phase switch on the tape returns, thats about all I can think of.
 
I just snagged a Ghost 24ch MMC w/meter bridge for $2800 on Ebay. I've seem them go as low as $2500 with the same loadout. I can't wait to use it.
 
Thanks for talkin' some sense into me! :p I'm just anxious to get into some serious projects for once.
 
If you see a fully loaded Ghost (MMC, Meterbridge) for under $3000 do now wait too long. If there is a good Buy It Now price they usually go in the first day.

The 24's usually go for $2500-2800 and the 32's go for $3000-3500.
 
While I agree the Ghost is a geat board, if your looking for another option besides it or the mackie, check out the Soundtracs Topaz 32 channel board. I hear great things about them on this board, mainly their mic pre's, eq's and routing section.
Someone said Harvey's got one, so maybe ask him.
I have worked with one before, and it sounded way better than any mackie, and IMO held its own against the Ghost which I have also worked with before. Best part is you can spot them on e-bay for less than 2g's US. They are inline consoles so yo don't have tons of re-routing to do either. Another option for you.

i just checked out ebay and they have a Ghost 24 with the meter bridge and its going for like $600 us right now. It still has a week or so left but thats still well under a 1/10 of the price
