Hey all, I normally post in different forums, but this stuff is quite different from what I usually do. I have 2 snippets of my first successful online collaborations and 1 snippet of a remix I did last year for consideration for the then upcoming James Bond film.

"In My Life" was done completely online, the vocalist recorded this using your standard web-type microphone (you know the $10 cheapies) and then sent it to me for a remix. The final mix was done by the songwriter using Acid 2.0. This is a tad lo-fi.

"Will I" was a track I produced and then sent to the songwriter so she could add lyrics. The separated audio tracks were then sent to Dan Marfisi where he tracked the vocals and did the final mix.

I'm trying to decice whether to add these to my discography so feedback would definitely be helpful.

Thanks in advance,

BTW, I'd love to comment on other peoples work as well, but I know nothing about acoustic instrument recording and/or mixing. Anyone with synthetic based recordings, please leave me a link so I can give you some feedback as well.

"Will I"

She's got a pretty voice. I 'specially liked the sampled "ooo ooo oo oooo ooo's", played via keyboard... almost an autotune effect... but really sweet.

Nice job.

Not my genre but good recordings nontheless. I absolutely hate that hip-hop drum sound but you've done a good job of recording and mixing here.

Lt. Bob and Participant,

Thanks for the listens. Pamela Newland, the vocalist on "Will I" has a beautiful voice, her album is amazing, I'm humbled to have been a part of it.

Lt. Bob, you caught me. Most of the music that I create is hip-hop, these are exceptions, but still contain hip-hop elements such as drum sounds. I appreciate the listen seeing as this isn't your style of music.

Thanks again guys.

Hey fellas, if it's not too much to ask I'd like to get a little more feedback here. I have some views on "Will I" but no one has listened to "James Bond Remix #2" or "In My Life".

This material is a stretch for me, which is was I'm asking for feedback on it. I know quite a few have listened but did not respond. Positive or negative thoughts on this would be tremendouly helpful.

Thanks,

Stray

Bond- there seems to be some verb on the bass or something, but it dosen't feel quite right. Sounds almost like Madonna's song with the crazy syth stuff going on the the background. Don't really care for the drums, both the rhythem or the actual samples. Still is an ok song, but does need some work.

In My Life- Singer has a pretty nice voice, although it's that Maria Carey over the top voice that I really dislike. The mic issue didn't sound too bad. Don't know who wrote the lyrics, but some of it's pretty bad with rhyming like 5 words in a row, just kinda cheesy. Backing track is good, drums are much better on this one.

Nik D,

Thanks for the comments here. I think you're right on the drums on the Bond Remix, I was going for the huge kick sound that seems so popular in dance music, but was unsure of how to go about it. What you're hearing is actually 2 samples with a slight delay on one and a bit of reverb, not something I normally do. Not sure if I'll be adding this to my discography.

"In My Life" was written by a songwriter I do alot of work with. She's not the greatest lyricist, but she pays well. The vocalist does kind of remind me of Christina Aguilera (who is oftened compared to Mariah) and while I like that style, I know a lot of people who are annoyed by it. Thanks for the compliment on the track.

Thanks again for the listen, it helps a bunch.

I thought In my Life was really good for that style of music. Not the type I listen to often but I enjoyed it. That mic gave a character sound to her voice. The Bond piece was cool, I enjoyed the effects and variation. Your mixes are good.

I listened to all three.. sounds like you have your stuff together.. I like all the vocal stuff gong on in the first tune..

James Bond was interesting, was that a Roland keyboard? The fidelity seemed like it could be better as compared to the first tune..

the last song was recorded well, but a few of those notes she was singing were annoying me..

the first song is the best overall.. sound and performance..

participant mentioned you were playing those oooo's with a keyboard? is that true?

Toki and Sabbath,

Thanks for the continued support fellas, it is much appreciated.

Sabbath,

You know your keyboards. All the tracks were made on Roland keyboards. "Will I" and the Bond remix on the JX-305 (MC-505 with keys) and "In My Life" on the XP-30 sequenced by the JX-305.

The JX-305 has a pretty weak sound engine, which is evidenced on the Bond remix. The mix was done straight from the keyboard with no outboard processing of any sort. "Will I", although produced on the JX-305, was separated, mixed and processed.

The ooo's were not played on the keyboard. That line was originally played by a melodic instrument and then replaced by the vocal adlib. I did not do the mix on this track, but the engineer said he just added some sort of effect (not sure what type) to the vocal adlib.

Glad to hear none of you have a problem with the vocals on "In My Life". I think it is a beautiful song, but was worried about the sound quality. I am pretty sure this will end up on my discography.

Thanks again everybody for the listens everybody, this really will help me out.
