Hi everyone.

I've been playing guitar for a long time through little amps that sound like crap :)

Recently, I purchased a M-audio fast track USB device, with guitar rig. Compared to everything I'm used to.. this setup sounds AMAZING when i play through my headphones.

I want to create a nice little guitar and mic setup for myself. As I mentioned, I have the M-audio fast track usb (this one)

I want to be able to play guitar to mp3 backtracks/midi files/drum loops etc... and I'd like to be able to play them out loud. Also, I'd like to be able to sing along (at the same time) - with different effects on my vocals.

Is this type of setup possible with the m-audio device I have. I can plug in both my guitar and mic at the same time, but I'm just not sure if I can control them separately (ie use different effects on each signal).

ALso, I'm wondering if you guys have any recommendations for some low budget monitors. Like I said, guitar rig sounds amazing through the headphones.. I'd like to keep some of that quality, but play it out loud.

thanks for any advice.

Since you'll be using two mics (one for guitar amp & one for vocals) you will need two preamps. The m-audio only has one preamp. That means you'll need one more preamp that will plug into the 1/4" input (make sure the 1/4" input is set to line...not instrument). This preamp could either be in a mixer or a stand alone preamp. Either way, plug your mic into the mixer/preamp then take the line out and plug that into the 1/4" input on the M-Audio. Set your DAW up to record two tracks and your good to go. :D

I can't help you as far as monitors.

If you're using mics, you don't want to be using monitors while recording - you'll get bleed-through and possible feedback. You use the monitors during playback.

thanks for the info guys.

But I'm not too concerned about quality of recording right now.. I just want to build a nice little jamming setup. I will very rarely record anything, and if I did it would probably be 1 track at a time.

I basically want to be able to stuff like this: (fast forward to about a minute in)

but I'd like to add vocals in.

If I buy a small mixer, along with my m-audio fast track, will I be able to contol the mic and guitar signals seperately?

If I plug into the mixer first, then into the fastrack usb, wont it be treated as one signal? (and therefore I wont be able to control each signal separately with effects)
