Had this posted in a different forum, but probably should have posted it here.

Hey,

Longtime snooper, first time poster. I've recorded by band using ProTools LE interface and veresion 6.2(?) software. I have little experience with mixing, other than the bits and pieces I can get off these boards, and I'm having trouble mixing the project.

Click HERE to hear the song. Obviously, the mix needs some work, but I swear that it sounds so much better before I mix it down.

EQ suggestions?? does it need more compression?? what can I do about that vocal?? Any and all advice is very much appreicated....Please help!!

Love this song! So upbeat, jazzin' and bluesy at the same time....

I would say pull the volume up a bunch on the mix, and maybe the drums could be a tiny bit louder.

The ending is a kind of off - it suddenly gets louder.... and some random guitar stuff - not sure why that's there - probably just needs to be clipped off??

But other than that this sounds really good - excellent playing and recording IMHO.....

Great Stuff!

:D :) ;) :D

yeah, i need to do some cleanup ediiting at the end...

How can I boost the whole track? My master track for mixdown are at maximum levels?

Any eq suggestions? That's an area where I really feel like a novice..

ok, i like the song, great playing, good tracking i suppose ...

... but all the elements of your mix seem to exist in a different inviroment. maybe there is an issue with the verbs on your tracks? i'm not sure. but to my ears it sounds more like a collection of tracks than a mix.

i hope this doesn't sound too negative.

Not too negative at all. I made the mistake of mixing through headphones, and I know exactly what you mean-- it does sound like a bunch of tracks just sitting on top of each other...

How can I fix that? What do you mean "reverb" issues..Should I be using reverb on every track? Do I have to use the same reverb parameters to make the tracks gel better?

Thanks for the responses so far.

I found that (thanks to Dogman's rec) a multi-band compressor is really good at making the tracks sit better together.

I then add a bit of reverb and it gels together in the same "room and sounds pretty good (at least to my humble ears).

The compressor can also help to boost the low volume up some.

You still have to get a good mix to start with so the balance is good between everything when you compress... Hope that's helpful..... :D :)
