Okay, couple months ago my church was given a free amp, we used it for a bit and our bassist shot it, so we didn't use it for the longest time. Now, I (the drummer) brought it home a couple days ago. It's an old amp from the 1970s that Yorkville used to make called "Sonax". All I know is that it's 50 watts and has a 15" speaker. It's terribly shot and sounds like mud. (By the way it's a bass combo amp). I can hear the bass but there is a terrible rumbling distorted sound with it.

I e-mailed a local music store but they haven't gotten back to me yet. I was wondering if anyone could give me an estimate on how much it would cost to replace and install a new speaker? I'm in Canada by the way, not the States. I'm sure the price varys by quality of the speaker, but any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks.

The problem could be the amp as well as the speaker. I would hookup another speaker and play through it first before replacing the speaker. If it sounds good with a different speaker, then that was the problem. If not, your problem was the amp.
