Replacing drums with other drum samples

Hi all,

I went into a studio locally (Magic Garden in Wolverhampton, UK) and in there the engineer replaced the bass drum sound with another bass drum sample to make the bass drum sound more 'clicky'.

I was wondering what plugin he will have used for this and if anyone knows how I can get my hands on one and how much it costs. I know he uses a pro-tools setup but I would be interested if there is a plugin for Cubase VST/32.

Anyone know?

In ProTools, it probably woulda been Sound Replacer, in native formats, it was probably drumagog.
You can always go in by hand and lay the sample right over the top of your waveforms. Slow, but effective.
 
This might be interesting...I once tried to replace the kick drum with a alesis D4 using the trigger inputs, but it was terrible.....totally out of time.

My band used a Alesis D-4 once to replace snare on a few songs and it worked ok. If it's not in sync you need to adjust the drum track you want to replace according to the latency of your soundcard.

www.mda-vst.com has a free VST plugin, BeatBox, for replacing drums. I haven't figured out yet how to use own samples with it yet but it's possible.

www.tobybear.de has a free VST plugin, PeakFreak, that you can use to replace drums.
"A plugin that converts audio input that falls into a certain frequency and amplitude range into midi notes of a certain length."

Record the MIDI output of PeakFreak and then use a MIDI sample player e.g. LinPlug RM F to play the new track.
 
Ahhh so is there a way of replacing the MIDI drums that I have created in the Drum editor with samples?

I think that would be awesome as my MIDI drums are pretty solid and in time but just need to sound more realistic. :D

Any clues?

there are some plugins for that: "Battery" from native instruments; dr008; and some others i dont recall.
 
I 4th Drumagog. I just got it but it is sooo easy to use and it will keep the groove seemlessly. It even works on most fills. So far I have only used it on a problem snare track I have.
