Equipment listed in bottom.

I am brand spanking new to routing my guitar through my computer. I have tried it 2 different ways, guitar->amp-> Mic 2 (on front of audigy hd bay console) and guitar -> Mic 1 on the card itself. Both ways I get A. a dirty sound just allowing windows to put that channel to the speakers. Also the sound cuts in a and out at a constant frequency. I will continue to to futz around with settings but I would appreciate any light that can be shown on my situation. If you need any more info about how its setup I will post in reply.

well, first off your guitar is not a microphone...so plugging it into the microphone is distorting your signal. you can try the line inputs, but even that is not made for a direct guitar signal. When you plug the guitar into your amp, how are you getting the amp signal to the computer?? are you using a microphone?

the soundblaster cards are not really made for recording, you might want to look into getting a more suited card for your needs.

you need a di box or you could run thru a guitar effects box that has a line out. either way, you want to go into the line in of the sound card.

i have ran a guitar thru the mic in of an onboard sound card. it sounds pretty stale though. if you use the mic in, make sure that the mic in recording level is down pretty low. it's really easy to clip.
